Eine enge Verbindung zu Russland blieb jedoch bestehen. Besonders im Osten der Ukraine leben auch heute noch viele Menschen mit russischen Wurzeln Der Westen der Ukraine orientiert sich hingegen eher an Europa und möchte eine StĂ€rke Zusammenarbeit mit der EuropĂ€ischen-Union . Innerhalb der Ukraine gibt es seit lĂ€ngerem Spannungen zwischen dem Pro-russische Osten und dem pro-europĂ€ischen Westen . Ende 2013 kam es zu Protesten in der Ukraine, bei denen viele Menschen eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit der EuropĂ€ischen Union forderten. Andere Ukrainer und Ukrainerinnen wiederum wollten lieber zu Russland gehören und es kam zu Gewalt zwischen den beiden Lagern. Im Osten der Ukraine brach sogar ein Krieg aus.
