As you know, Wind is a result flow of gases from one place to another. When the wind flows from one place to another it come across some obstacles. For example: trees, rocks and Mountains etc.
There is special phenomena that occur when the wind travels over a mountain.
This mysterious phenomena gives birth to the CHINOOK WINDS.

By definition "It is a strong wind that becomes ward and dry when it's rapidly descending the lee side of the mountain."

Therefore these winds are seen near mountain ranges such as Rocky mountains in Canada, Montana in America, New Zealand and Germany.
Fun fact : In New Zealand these similar winds are called Canterbury Northwesters.

When the warm, moist wind is passing over the mountain as it goes uphill the they expand and cooldown and as a result rain and formatioin of clouds can be observed. once these winds reach the lee side it starts to descend an it gets warmer. For every 100m of descend the temperature of the wind increases by 1 degree of Celcius. These Chinook winds can reach speed of upto 120km/h or 75mph (according to wikipedia). There might be temperature changes upto 20 degrees Celcius in hours. The rise in temperature is called Dry adiabatic rate.
