End Child Poverty is an organization run by the U.S Child Poverty Action Group. This organization has a goal of lowering national child poverty levels by 50% within 10 years, as placing priority on the health and well-being on our children is extremely important for our future. End Child Poverty's main initiative is to have laws targeting the end of child poverty put into place in the U.S., as none currently exist. They work towards holding the government accountable for the reduction of child poverty within our nation. End Child Poverty U.S. works alongside many national organizations, with some of the most recognizable being National WIC Association, National Center for Children in Poverty, No Kid Hungry, and Children's Health Fund.

The NCCP is an organization that also targets lawmakers and encourages them to make laws that focus on the impoverished youth in our nation. They do research and provide feedback on things the U.S. can do differently to help fix the crisis we are seeing within our country. They want to make changes for the families living under the poverty line by contacting lawmakers and making sure their research is known. The NCCP provides information regarding the child poverty crisis in the U.S., runs a plethora of projects designed to help low-income families pull out of poverty - such as Making Work Supports Work - which is a policy reform movement to help ensure adequate pay for full-time parents for child care and necessities. The NCCP stems from within the Bank Street Graduate School of Education, where they work together to gradually improve the lives of families across the country. (words 150)

Education Gap Between Rich and Poor is Growing Wider

This article was written by Eduardo Porter from The New York Times (2015). He talks about how the racial gap between students had gotten better yet the educational achievement gaps have gotten wider, and continue to do so. One of the main points he establishes is that children that experience poverty have many set backs than kids who don't have to worry about their money situation at all. For example, they are more likely to suffer higher obesity rates, have more social and emotional problems and are more likely to report poor or fair health. Because their parents do not have the money they are more likely to not have the opportunities to afford private education or even extra curricular activities that many other students do. The sons and daughters of college-educated parents are more than twice as likely to go to college as the children of high school graduates and seven times as likely as those of high school dropouts. They are at a disadvantage in many different ways than their classmates and this can really hurt those student.

Poverty Rates Soar Among NYC School Kids

This article was written by Selim Algar from the New York Post (2018). He writes about the number of kids in poverty has increased by a huge amount over the last couple of years. The department of Education states that this was the highest rate of poverty in the last five years. The city schools currently enroll 39,000 more poor students than last year, the numbers show. About 75% of the students receive reduced or free lunches as well. Because of this high increase of kids in poverty, this has also increased the rate of children becoming homeless. Also, because of all the high rates of poverty, this has increased the rate of school dropouts.

Of these three numbers, we believe that the mean most represents the data the best because it shows the average response to this question. It is the most representative because 35 out of our 62 responses thought that there were less than 15 million children living in poverty in the United States. That is over half of the responses. It an important number because so many responses were less than the actual 15 million.
