The struggles of being a single parent while attending college

The financial burden of attending college while being a single parent can make completing college difficult. Ultimately the goal is not to live in poverty anymore. All 3 participants that were single parents attending college stated that they went to college to make a better life for themselves and for their children. Through financial setbacks, the stress of juggling work and school while taking care of kids, succeeding is possible. While it is possible to succeed, more can be done to make help these single parents while they are in college. Colleges need to take notice of the single parents and help guide them to the resources that are available.

This scholarship required bills, such as a car payment or rent, be turned in, and then the scholarship paid the bill. This was not a hand out, rather an opportunity to be able to support this family and make it possible to complete college.

Reflection of my class experience

This course turned out to be the perfect pace for me! It would have dragged on if it was 16 weeks but with it only being 9 weeks I felt like I never lost interest in doing my work. The course was very well organized and helped me stay on track. I really liked how all the weeks were planned out with both before and after class assignments. It really helped me to plan accordingly. Although I am not sure if I will remember everything about APA format, for now, I feel like I have a pretty good gasp on most of the rules. The redundancy of doing the APA assignments really helped because I am the type of person that needs that constant reminder when learning something new. I feel like Professor Wetzl did a great job teaching and really worked hard through all the technical issues. Even technical issues on our end, she has been very understanding and never seemed annoyed. My biggest (or soon to be) victory is essay 3. I have been dreading it since I looked at the schedule, but it turned out to not be so bad. When seeing a paper worth twice as much as the others, plus twice as long, can really stir up some insecurities. Now that my drafts are finished and I have received positive feedback, I’m not as concerned with the paper. It was a great learning experience being taught how to write a research paper, but I hope I never have to write another! But if I do, I will at least have good notes and the right knowledge to put another research paper together. I still laugh that she called me out when I submitted my survey, and asked if I took notes! I did take notes, but apparently they were not very good notes, sorry Professor!

On a different note, I took Professor Wetzls class because I looked her up on ratemyprofessor. She had great reviews and I’m glad the reviews were super accurate! I’ve never written a review on that site, but I might just have to give her another great review. (Was it wrong to only take this class because of that website? Lol) Secondly, Professor Wetzl, for it being so early in the morning, how did you always look so put together! I never showed myself because I look like a zombie that early in the morning. To make it even more impressive, you were grading papers and posting them after midnight the night before we had class! Kudos to you! If I had to take another writing class, I would take it with you. However, if I am being honest, I’m relieved that my writing class days are over! Thank you for the encouraging words and the right tools to succeed.
