Read Write Think has developed a comprehensive series of guides detailing strategies for differentiation in the classroom, from assessment to cooperative learning to the think-pair-share technique. Each guide includes the research basis for the strategy, how to implement it, and lesson plans.

One idea for the implementation is introducing the concept of using Exit Slips in the classroom. This will help students reflect on what they have learned and express what or how they are thinking about the new information. Exit Slips easily incorporate writing into the content area classroom and require students to think critically.

Educators upload their own learning content, which the platform automatically transforms into assessments, or choose from the outstanding Formative library. Students respond on their own devices via text or drawing, continuously updated in real time on the teacher’s screen.

One idea for implementation is having students can respond to your questions by recording themselves using audio and video! This is great for young learners and foreign-language classes. There is a 10-minute limit to recordings, so students will have plenty of time to share their thoughts!

One of the simplest and easiest ways to create and share formative assessments. Create video quizzes, multiple-choice, or short answer questions quickly. Link the Google Form to a Google Sheet in order to analyze responses.

One implementation tip is for a study guide or pop quiz for homework and the student seeing the quiz will be told it is a locked quiz. Once they begin, the window will go to full screen mode and they won't be able to navigate away. This keeps students focused and makes this ideal for a quiz in which you have a time limit and want total focus.

A remarkable free site that transforms current events into rich classroom lessons for learners of any ability. Each news article is written at four different reading levels and accompanied by online grammar, spelling, and vocabulary activities as well as printable worksheets. Students can also listen to audio at five speeds for each article. Ideal for ELL students or simply differentiating English lessons.

One implementation idea is is to use the site for ESL and EFL students wanting to learn English. The site has English news readings and listening. There are two news lessons every week on news stories from across the world. Can be assigned as extra credit or as an alternative homework assignment.

Very cool free site that “rewordifies” by simplifying difficult text, from classic literature (Lewis Carroll, William Shakespeare, Harriet Beecher Stowe, e.g.) to historical documents and modern internet articles. Users can upload their own text or URL, or browse existing content. Be sure to check out the printable vocabulary exercises and quizzes, and the Educator Central department, which allows teachers to add student accounts and track progress.

One implementation idea is using this for a themed week, like a Renaissance week, or Classic Literature Month and engaging the students through this free resource.

Don’t be fooled by Classtools.net’s simple layout -- this site is a powerhouse of free, fun, and easy-to-use tools for teaching and learning, many of which are not found elsewhere.

One implementation ideas is when student's finish their assignment early, and insist on using classroom technology limiting them to a website like this can ensure they have fun, while learning as well.
