I started out as a Forensic Science major at the University of Central Oklahoma. A lot has changed, if that wasn't obvious. I switched majors a lot, and finally settled into English, and graduated May of 2020 with a Bachelors of Arts degree. I wasn't happy with my current route, though. I went searching for something new, dabbling in Nursing along the way, and settled into Elementary Education in the Fall of 2020. I've been in many elementary classrooms, and I knew this was the place for me. I hit the ground running, and I am excited to be so close to being a full-fledged teacher! Heres to December 2022.

I volunteered hours upon hours in a first grade classroom during my first stint through college. And boy did I fall in love with those kiddos. Everything about them made me happy. I loved helping them read, write, and work through things they thought were too difficult, initially. That should have been my first clue that Elementary Education was where my heart was.

Next stop: daycare. I spent all of Summer 2021 in a daycare surrounded by kids ranging from ages five to eight. It was a fun summer, truly. We had dance parties, water days, engineering competition days, and just plain running-around-the-playground-like wild days. I had to move on, though, and found my next place at a daycare with even younger kids. Now I spend my days with two-year-olds. We dance, sing, paint, fall down (laugh about it), and everything in between. That saying "if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life" holds true for me. I love what I do. I love my kiddos.

Why I Want to Teach

I had a lot of amazing teachers growing up. Some felt like best friends, some felt like family, some just felt like teachers that actually cared if I succeeded or not. I appreciate all of them, because they showed me (without really knowing it) how to be a great teacher. How to be understanding, accepting, and welcoming. I can't thank them enough for what they did. They're why I teach. Because they gave me the power to learn, to love learning, and I want to share that with as many kids as I possibly can. I loved going to school (still love going to school), and I want all kids to feel that, too. To have the chance to love school, love learning, love pushing themselves to be best they can be. That's why I want to teach.
