It is unrealistic to expect a student dealing with overwhelming anxiety, depression, ADHD, and so on to focus and act appropriately within classroom. They cannot be expected to follow rules they cannot understand. Teachers should clearly state AND explain the expectations of the class every time they meet. While some big-picture expectations can be posted, I believe it is more effective to have a discussion about rules and expectations often and in-depth.
