Sky news was owned by Rupert Murdoch and his company 21st century fox which owned majority stakes in the media organisation which has now been sold to companies such as Disney with shares worth 12 billion dollars. The auction sees the end of a four decade involvement of Murdoch who founded the company in 1989. The management of sky news is overseen by the head of the company John Ryley as well as the sky group which was created by Parent company Comcast.

Waterson, J. W., & Waterson, J. W.

The Sky group produces a variety of content from news coverage and sports to even crime dramas and even documentaries. The company also has now tv a subscription based service that can give people access to a variety of tv shows and for a one time price can have access to specific sports events. The Sky group was originally setup in 1989 with only four channels in the entirety of its catalogue and currently sky has easily more channels in its current catalogue.

Our content.
How does the organisation make money? Does it make a profit? Where does the money it makes go?

The Sky group has three main ways of generating income the first is through subscription based or monthly payments based on plans which include specific channels such as sports as well as the sky channels that customers would get when they have payed for a sky box as well as other subscriptions now tv which is part owned by the Sky group company which requires a monthly subscription to access the content on the platform. Another way is through advertisements due to the fact that sky is privately owned which means that they cannot rely on a tv licence like the BBC do which means one of the easiest ways to make money is to sell advertising space. The last way that the Sky group has of generating income is renting movies and sports events for a one time use deal that expires after a certain amount of time with examples being the film elf is usually on sale to rent during the holiday season. In 2020 Sky saw a 575 million pound fall in revenue which was cited because of the lack of football to generate that revenue which would usually see them make that investment back during the season. But this did not occur due to the fact all football had stopped for 6 months which would have easily generated that lost revenue. The main plan that the Sky group have for upcoming year is to have more options to use a WIFI based sky box instead of satellite dishes which can not only help get a better signal but also help apartment building that may not have access to a satellite dish. Another thing that Sky are looking to implement is support for surround sound with more choice into personal audio that could be supported by a Sky box. Sky uses the profit it makes to fund more sky one programs to bring a wider audience to sky which would mean they get more money to produce more shows.
Statista.

The Sky group hits a variety of audiences due to the fact that they have to due to needing the audience's money as they cannot rely on receiving government funding through a tv license like the BBC has. The main audience that Sky targets are the sports fans for the men's sports especially football fans for the English leagues as having Sky sports is the only way to legally watch the matches other than going to the actual games. Another is a more mainstream audience which is the sky one drama programs that help to draw in a major audience that helps to fund future shows. The products are designed to attract as many people as possible to generate as much money as possible with a variety of channels and content from dramas to documentaries even having an art section for content.
Our content.

The Sky group was founded in 1989 by Rupert Murdoch with just 4 channels in total which compared to today as even the basic plan has triple the amount of channels. The main change that has happened since the company was founded was the ability to stream premier league football matches and other English league games as well as having channels specifically for sports news and other sports such as rugby and boxing that need coverage which Sky didn't originally do when they were founded in 1989. Another change from when the Sky group was founded back in 1989 is the introduction of Now tv which is a subscription based service for online content owned by the same parent company as Sky which is Comcast and can be used for access to one time sporting events such as boxing matches and streams to football matches such as premier league or champions league matches. The last major change is the ability to buy or rent movies such as toy story or even other genres such as horror films and Christmas films.

Waterson, J. W., & Waterson, J. W.
Can you find out what the organisation is planning for its future?

The main plan for the future that the Sky group will be looking at is finding a way to get profits back to the levels that they were at before the pandemic hit which saw them lose out on over 500 hundred million pounds in revenue due to all sports being stopped for six months. The overall plans at Sky aren't as major due to the fact that a major overhaul is not needed as most customers are fine with how things are currently running. The main two things they're looking to change are allow for sky boxes to be used through Wi-Fi connection instead of using a satellite dish which will help people for example in apartments who may not have one or get one installed. The second is allowing for more personal choice in terms of being able to have more speakers compatible with a sky box to be able to have surround sound as some are not compatible. The main plans focus more on speed improvements and streamlining services for more user satisfaction in a way that doesn't require the whole network and system to have a massive overhaul that would make customers unhappy for long term success.
May, S.
