Prior to my summary of internship experiences with AMDI, I will give a short brief about myself. My name is Shahrul Hafiz Mohd Zaini, a student of the University of Malaya. My field study is in Science of Biotechnology and I had done a project on catfish diet for my final year project.
First of all, I had to choose Advanced Medical and Dental Institute for my internship training purposely to strengthen my laboratory skills and also to expose myself to the real work of scientist and researchers.
Along the way of my internship, I had worked with a mini project which is writing a case report in a title of Emanuel syndrome which under Dr. Rabiatul Basria supervision.
This project was quite challenging as I only have a slight knowledge in genetic basis. Beneficially, I able to hands on and learn on cytogenetic analysis which including the karyotyping and also handling the Fluorescence in situ Hybridization(FISH). Emanuel syndrome is a rare case that happens due to unbalanced segregation during meiosis by balanced t(11;22) career which resulting in an offspring that possibly having severe mental retardation, microcephaly, failure to thrive, ear anomalies, high arch palate, micrognathia, renal anomalies, congenital anomalies and etc. This dangerous of this syndrome should be addressed to the community as the balanced t(11;22) carrier showing no physical abnormalities that troublesome in detection.
Furthermore, Dr. Rabiatul had given me a golden opportunity in exposing me with postgraduate seminar and also journal club. These events had honed my communicative abilities, confident level, reliability, and responsibility.
With this opportunity, I also want to give an enormous gratitude to RBSM research team including Mr. Faris and Miss. Hazliana for their assist and guidance in completing all the task along with my internship. In addition, best of luck for RBSM research team and I hope that they will keep dedicating and patients in doing their task and research as we concern, "No research without action, no action without research " by Kurt Lewin. Hopefully, we can keep in touch in future.
In roughly, I had so much fun and so much new knowledge that I able to learn during this internship. Honestly, I would like to suggest this place to my junior in the University of Malaya for having their internship here as we could expose with different knowledge and applied our theoretical knowledge that we had learned for almost three years in the University of Malaya. With that, thank you.
