It is believed that the gas and dust in the spirals gets used up in the process of star-formation, and the galaxies evolve inte lenticular galaxies.


The arms of the galaxy are NOT like a string that the galaxy pulls around, but more like a pattern of where many stars in rotation happen to be. (Kind of like a traffic-jam)


Most (if not all) spiral galaxies have a supermassive black hole in the galactic centre.
