"Watch Beatboxers Break It Down Inside an M.R.I. Scanner"

- Scientists used Magnetic Resonance Imaging (M.R.I.) to observe what would occur once a beatboxer starts beatboxing whilst simultaneously going through the process.

- The researchers, all of which with different scientific backgrounds, convened to compare speech with beatboxing.

- Beatboxing artists often use clicks, rolls or their breath to imitate the sounds of a drum machine and many other effects to create a short piece.

- The data was collected by using, unlike past experiences where it was only tested once, two novices, two experts and one fairly experienced beatboxer who was involved in this experiment.

- Curious to see whether speaking several languages can impact on your beatboxing skills, they analyzed the M.R.I. of a performer who portrayed these qualities.

- It was found that beatboxers use acrobatic movements all around their mouths that aren't used in any established language.

- The scientists attempted to fond out more after discovering that beatboxers draw sounds from all around their mouths.

- The researchers are also comparing what the mouth/throat looks like before beatboxing and speaking to get a general outcome/conclusion.

- From this quotation, you can come to the conclusion of the main aim: “We also want to look at how beatboxers acquire new skills, which we hypothesize may bear resemblance to learning a new language,” Mr. Greer said.

‘Apple and Samsung End Smartphone Patent Wars’

- Apple and Samsung, two of the most popular and innovative smartphone companies, ended a seven-year long legal fight in June, 2018.
- The case unfolded back in 2011 when Apple first sued Samsung for copying their iPhone design for the iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Prevail.
- Samsung was forced to pay 539 million dollars to Apple back in May which was decided by a jury and reduced from the price of 2 billion dollars which Apple had first initiated.
- According to Mr. Love and Michael A. Carrier, professors who studied patent law, said “Apple won on paper, but it failed in its goal to gain a competitive advantage over Samsung and other phone makers in its series of lawsuits against them”
- Apple wanted Samsung devices to be completely blocked from markets but the courts didn’t block the product because patents at issue played only a small role in the device.

Tejus’s articleFacebook Had a Good Election Day. But It Can’t Let Up Now.

Summary—After an Election Day largely free of viral social media misinformation, and with little trace of the kind of Russian troll stampede that hit its platform in 2016, executives at Facebook may be tempted to take a victory lap. But that would be a mistake

But more than anything, this year’s midterm election cycle has exposed just how fragile Facebook remains.

Even the anti-abuse systems the company put in place after the 2016 election have not gone smoothly.

Facebook has framed its struggle as an “arms race” between itself and the bad actors trying to exploit its services.

As the votes were being tallied on Tuesday, I talked to experts who have paid close attention to Facebook’s troubles over the past several years. Most agreed that Election Day itself had been a success, but the company still had plenty to worry about

Facebook has shown, time and again, that it behaves responsibly only when placed under a well-lit microscope. So as our collective attention fades from the midterms, it seems certain that outsiders will need to continue to hold the company accountable, and push it to do more to safeguard its users — in every country, during every election season — from a flood of lies and manipulation.

But Facebook would not have done this on its own. It took sustained pressure from lawmakers, regulators, researchers, journalists, employees, investors and users to force the company to pay more attention to misinformation and threats of election interference.

It is hard to imagine Facebook extending the same kind of effort to prevent misinformation and interference in Madagascar, Armenia or El Salvador, all of which have upcoming elections. And if you think Facebook will spin up a 24/7 “war room” to help stop meddling in Nigeria’s February elections, I have a bridge in Lagos to sell you.

Maybe You Were Thinking About Eating Raw Centipedes. Don't,

In China, there is hard evidence that eating raw centipedes is a bad idea. Although it doesn't cross many people's minds, centipedes are an established remedy in traditional medicine in China. Unqualified doctors would use dried, powdered centipedes for epilepsy, stroke, cancer, tetanus or rheumatoid arthritis. The centipedes were supposed to be eaten after being steeped in alcohol but not raw. However, a previous study showed a mother and a son who ended up with rat lungworms in their brains after eating wild centipedes that the son had bought in a local market. Rat lungworms usually infect people who eat raw snails or slugs but recent studies show that they can also be found in centipedes.

- According to new government data, child suicide rates in Japan skyrocketed last year, with the number reaching around 250 which was the highest amount since 1986.

- Studies show that suicide is already a persistent issue in Japan among adults and is growing immensely among adolescents.

- The stigma behind mental health is reportedly greater in Japan than elsewhere in the world and there is a lack of resources for young people in need. Teens and children are often overlooked in terms of their mental wellbeing and are unable to seek help.

- Many of the children who ended their lives did not leave a suicide note or give a reason beforehand, however the ones that did mostly wrote about being bullied, unbearable pressure to succeed, family problems and confusion as to what they’re going to do after graduation.

-When Japan’s Cabinet Office issued a survey, the results showed that the suicides tended to peak on September 1st, indicating that students felt more overwhelmed by school pressures after the summer break.

- Children in Japan of this generation supposedly do not recieve as much support from family as they could have years ago, when all generations lived in one house.

- Experts say that schools in Japan are not as well equipped to deal with mentally ill students as schools in other countries. Education about the topic of mental health is lacking and students may not be aware that their condition is a serious problem.
