Inquiry-based learning promotes exploration, questioning, and active involvement in the learning process among students, nurturing curiosity and critical thinking.

ATLs assist students in cultivating vital skills like communication, teamwork, and critical thinking. This empowers them to take charge of their own learning and apply it across different situations.

Creating central ideas that are clear and accessible so students can understand the essence of a unit more effectively.

What are effective ways to support inquiry-based learning for 5-year-olds who are still developing their communication and collaboration skills?

How can the learning journey of very young students be documented and assessed in a practical manner that does not overwhelm them?

I wonder how to establish a classroom atmosphere that combines organized learning with the opportunity for exploration, so that my 5-year-olds feel encouraged and motivated to pursue independent inquiry.

2.Students should set goals and reflect on their learning. Parents can be involved through meetings, sharing observations from home, or contributing to student portfolios.

3.We can use discussions, storytelling, role-playing, and presentations. Digital tools like videos or online writing tasks also make learning more engaging.

4.Feedback should give clear next steps, not just point out mistakes. Instead of saying, “Your writing needs more details,” we can say, “Try adding more adjectives to make your description stronger.”

1. Use trackers, portfolios, and recordings to track progress. Let students reflect and set goals to improve. Give individual feedback regularly. Set personal goals for the students. 2. Collaborate more with parents to transfer learning into real life situations (e.g. recycling) 3. Use discussions, storytelling, group work, and digital tools. Let students give peer feedback and present ideas (star of the month, routine presentations).4. Focus on strengths and next steps. Let students set goals based on feedback.

I learned how assessment in the PYP helps both teachers and students grow. We explored how students move from self-assessment to self-adjusting, and how teachers can support them by giving clear feedback and learning goals.

Identify

I will use this by helping students take more ownership of their learning, encouraging them to reflect, set goals, and track their progress instead of just waiting for teacher feedback.

Explore

I can explore different ways to give students reflection time in class, such as using visible thinking strategies, student-led assessments, or simple check-ins where they talk about what they learned.

Act

I will try to integrate self-assessment activities into my lessons and guide students in setting their own learning goals, helping them understand how to use feedback to improve.

I learned how to assess my students more effectively by using Approaches to Learning (ATLs) and SOLO taxonomy in my teaching. These tools helped me structure clear learning outcomes and evaluate student progress in a systematic and meaningful way. I gained insights into my strengths and weaknesses in lesson planning, highlighting the areas I need to improve.

In the future, I will use these strategies to create more structured and effective lesson plans. By integrating ATLs and SOLO taxonomy, I can ensure that my assessments are aligned with learning objectives.

Explore:

I can collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, integrate cross-curricular activities to develop skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and self-management, and further refine my planning and assessment techniques.

Act:

I will act on what I’ve learned by implementing these strategies in my upcoming lesson plans. I will also reflect on each lesson to identify areas for improvement and track student progress more effectively.
