Everyone had to be careful with who they associated with because the rebels were forcing young boys to kill their families and burn their villages. At one of the villages they got stopped by the guards of that village and questioned the boys. They were able to get out of being captured because they asked someone from their village if they knew the boys and they did, which confirmed they weren't rebels. They were able to get some food and move on to the next village which was called Kamator. Once the boys got to the village Kamator they had to help out with farming which they had never done before. They weren't used to the long laborious process of farming so they were made fun of. Eventually one day all their hard work of farming went to waste because the rebels ended up coming to the village causing everyone to run away. During that attack Ishamel was and his friends were separated. It was the last time I saw Junior, my older brother."   I chose this quote from the story because this is the lost of his older brother who was there to protect him and the rest of their siblings.
2."The first task we were given was to clear a massive plot of land the size of a football field. When we went to look at the bush that was supposed to be cut, I knew tough days lay ahead." this shows the labor he had to put in before even getting captured and turned into children of war.
3."But we needed to stay together because we had a better chance of escaping the day-to-day troubles we faced. People were terrified of boys our age." They didn't just have to worry about the rebels they had to be careful with entering villages because the people feared they were part of the rebels.
