Josephine and her fathers relatioship slowly progresses, from not tsking to eachother at all to Josie asking her father for help during a situation at school. Evidence suggesting so is in chapter 8- “My father is a barrister. I’ll call him…nobody was more suprised than me when Michael Andretti walked in.” This is a chnage in their relationship because before thids situation she gave her father a speech about keeping out of eachothers lives

An important relationship in Looking For Alibrandi is the one between Josie and Michael Andretti. Josie is the daughter of Michael Andretti. Josie has been raised by her mother in Australia although her Italian grandmother has a strong influence of Italian culture in her life. Josie and her father’s relationship has a strong influence on her coming of age. When we first meet Josie, she has no relationship with her father. She’s never met him and knows very little about him. Josie feels like it isn’t important to have him as a father figure in her life but she is concerned about her illegitimacy. When she attends the bbq with him, Josie decides to confront him. Michael says he promises to keep out of Josie’s life if she keeps out of his. This shows that neither of them are willing to compromise. When Josie’s agrees to this, she is not being honest as she would like to see Michael again. Josie’s uncivil approach to this shows her lack of maturity and communication skills. When they get pizza together after Josie’s date with Jacob, Michael and Josie have their first heart to heart conversation. Michael confesses he is scared to be a father. ‘I want to be honest. I would have rather life to have gone on the way it was going. I feel to old to be a father. I don’t want you to be misled about how i feel about you. I’m not sure if i can love you ever but i want to know you. I want to be part of your life because if i pretend you don’t exist you still won’t go away’. This quote shows the importance of communication and honesty. Michael is being honest with Josie. Instead of acting out, she listens to what he has to say and considers his perspective on things.

This quote from chapter 13 shows that both Josie and her father have a complicated relationship, however their relationship isn’t all bad when they both listen to eachother and try to stay calm. Gradually their relationship improves which also helps Josie grow as a person.
