People were removed from their  families 
because they had to fight.
You would think if you survived the battle you were lucky but in reality you would become a servant or be executed.
So if you would live during the crusades you would probably hate it because al of the reasons above.

It could be a knight, peasant, farmer,... Every human being would slaughter for a reason and the people who didn't had a reason were forced or they just find it fun to kill people so these people actually had a reason. On the battlefield there were many things happening. There were parts where they would just slaughter and there were parts where they would aid the wounded. Camps were made where they could rest and eat to also recover from their trauma tho this was only if they could reach the camp without being killed. This wasn't just a playground this was the real deal. On each side of the war were they doing their best in their own way. This was how i think it was.

The people who went there were porbaly knights who had armor horse and everything else. I imagine them being very exhausting and sometimes even annoying. A crusade can take a long time and being at war for a long time is sometimes in the end even useless. Imagine starting a crusade thinking you could win and than losing. The knight probably all had at least one weapon like a bow and arrow or a sword. Horses would be important to if you wanted to travel at a quick pace. A lot of training would also be required if you wanted to succeed in winning, but that was a little difficult since even peasants could join and fight along side the knights. I see the crusades as a time of death with a lot of dark and dangerous times. The first crusade started in 1096 and it lasted till 1099.  I think that it was unhappy/sad time because it cost thousands of lives. I imagine the people there, mad and sad because they had to fight and also a lot of people died.
I think I wouldn't fight because I can't fight and I also can't stand blood.

In the Middle ages around the 11th century the first crusade started. Two religions were ready to fight until the bitter end. Both sides were standing on top of a large hill. The leader of the Christians was staring deep into the Muslims' leader's eyes. A few miles further the people from the village were actually very calm. They didn't know what was about to start. Times of hunger, cold and danger. The Christian leader gave the starting signal. The fight began. A battle with thousands of deaths, much blood, and many injured. When at 1099 the first crusade ended, people knew this wasn't going to be the last one for sure.
