-While the gender pay gap for women in the UK with no children is slightly more than 7%, for those with at least one child it leaps to 21%.
-Christabel Pankhurst said that “from the moment that women had consented to prison, hunger-strikes, and forcible feeding as the price of the vote, the vote really was theirs”.
-The ONS has conducted research into the causes of the gender pay gap. This found the key factors explaining the pay gap were as follows:

22 percent of the gap is due to the different industries and occupations in which women work

21 percent of the gap is due to differences in years of full-time work

16 percent of the gap is due to the negative effect on wages of having previously worked part-time or of having taken time out of the labor market to look after the family

only 5 percent of the gap is due to formal education levels

A significant proportion (36 percent) of the pay gap could not be explained by any of these factors, suggesting direct discrimination may still be an important factor

Now:
Women make 16% less money than their male counterparts.

Although the pay gap is narrowing, women in the U.S. working full- and part-time make 84% of what their male counterparts earn, according to the Pew Research Center. In other words, women need to work an extra 40 days a year to make as much as men. It's an even grimmer picture overseas: Women worldwide make 77% the amount paid to men, according to a report from the United Nation's International Labor Organization.
https://www.marieclaire.com/politics/news/a15652/gender-inequality-stats/

In the 1820s men were in power. In their homes, in the workplace, and everywhere else. The men philosophy included these ideas. First, it was accepted that women are possessions of their husbands, and therefore they must agree with everything they say. Second, it was believed that most women were uneducated, or stupid, so women were automatically assumed to be incapable of voting for president. Also, because women were unschooled and ignorant, their say was unimportant. And finally that they were superior and that they should stay that way.
http://www.cyberlearning-world.com/nhhs/essays/women.htm

By 1840, ten percent of women held jobs outside the household; ten years later, this had risen to fifteen percent.
Factory owners hired women and children when they could because they could pay lower wages to women and children than to men. For some tasks, like sewing, women were preferred because they had training and experience, and the jobs were "women's work."
