At the beginning of the story Florian is kidnapped. You aren't sure what is completely going on and you don't know what, but it's interesting. Florian flashes back to weeks earlier. He just moved to DC with his mom and dad. They both work at the art museum in Washington. Florian makes a new friend named Margaret. He takes her to the museum to teach her The Theory of All Small Things or as they like to call it T.O.A.S.T. Using small details Florian can figure out big facts. They people watch while Margaret tries to learn TOAST for herself. A few days later 3 paintings go missing out of the museum. Florian tells his dad about the things he noticed while people watching a few days before. Florian goes along to the museum and helps the FBI using TOAST. Eventually the FBI hires him on as a consultant for cases. They try to solve the big mystery while also trying to solve a small one. Margaret was adopted and wants to find her birth parents. She asks Florian to help her find her parents by using TOAST. They attempt these two cases at the same time. Eventually Florian gets kidnapped by the Russian Mafia. That is when he discovers the "Nic the Knife" (leader of the Mafia) is actually Margaret's birth father. I have read this book to my daycare kids and they really enjoyed it. I even enjoyed reading it to them.
