This is a series that Ms. Durkin had in her book talk at the beginning of the year and it intrigued me to read because I love dystopian books. The first book is called the Throne of Glass and it is by Sarah J. Maas. This is a new series to me and I haven't read any of this series before but I am excited to start reading it.

This book intrigued me when I heard about it in Ms. Ellis's book talk. This book may challenge me as a reader though because I usually read fantasy books instead of more realistic books like this one. So this book may be a challenging and different read than I am used to but I am still excited to read it!

Some years earlier than Thomas but even since then they have never been able to find a way out. Also at night there are monsters in the maze that will kill them if they get stuck out of the glade at night.

Theme- I think the theme of this book is never give up and be true to yourself/ find your own identity.

- I felt bad for all of the Gladers throughout this book because they just wanted to get out of this maze that they found themselves unexpectedly stuck in with no memory of anyone they used to know.

- When Thomas went into the maze for the first time I didn't think it was the smartest decision but the outcome was really good in the end. Like I am not the kind of person who takes a lot of risks. When Thomas took a huge risk though it turned out well in the end. This inspired me to take more risks because sometimes you are rewarded and good things happen.

- A blind spot for me in this book for me is when the box opens and Thomas sees this new world for the first time and I don't know what emotions he would be feeling. This is because luckily I have never been in a situation like this before.

Windows and Mirrors- The Maze Runner by: James Dashner

This book was a window for me because of the world it takes place in, the conflicts, and the trauma/loss.
1. The first example of why this book was a window for me is the world it takes place in. In this book Thomas wakes up in a totally wacky setting, the middle of a giant maze! I cannot relate to this and hope I never get trapped in any place remotely close to the maze.
2. Another reason this book is a window for me is the characters because in this book they are just kids who have made this whole society for themselves and follow it to the point of leaving each other to die. Like when the Gladers leave Ben out in the maze. I don't think anyone that I know even if they were stuck in a giant maze would ever do that.
3. The final way this is a window for me is the trauma/loss in the book because the Gladers lose a lot of their friends throughout the book like when Chuck died that left Thomas in a really bad emotional state. Fortunately I have never lost someone that close to me and therefore I do not know the emotions/grief that are going through Thomas at that moment in the book.
