In Jordan’s story, it is revealed that Gatsby is in love with Daisy and has been since the day he left for war. While he was waiting to reunite with Daisy, Gatsby stayed faithful and never had a relationship with another woman. The commitment that Gatsby showed towards Daisy was very uncommon for this time period. Affairs and meaningless relationships brought out the corruption in every class of society. Likewise, in today’s society, affairs and divorces are just as common; there is an entire industry that revolves around adultery. Affairs are no longer as secretive with companies advertising their websites, such as Ashley Madison, which encourage and link people to have affairs.

Gatsby's commitment to Daisy is so strong it is almost bordering on obsession. This is proven by what Jordan is saying to Nick in this quote, "He says he's read a Chicago paper for years just on the chance of catching a glimpse of Daisy's name."(79) Gatsby love for Daisy is so strong he is committed to having her in his life however possible even if it is through the paper.

The love that Gatsby has for Daisy encourages Gatsby to buy expensive things to catch the attention of Daisy. This is shown when Gatsby builds his house across the bay from Daisy; "Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay". This quote proves Gatsby buys things to impress Daisy because, in building the house, he knew Daisy could see right across the bay.

Gatsby makes this elaborate plan and asks Nick to "invite Daisy to your [his] house some afternoon and let him [Gatsby] come over." Gatsby's geniune love for Daisy is uncommon in 1920's America for the reason that he will do anything to be her, even after the many years that have passed.
