During the first month of the lunar calendar, villages and townships in the New Territories will hold lantern lighting ceremonies according to custom. Villagers who have had children in the past year will light lamps in ancestral halls, shrines or lantern sheds to inform the gods and ancestors that a male was born in the family. The lighting of the lamps represents succession to the incense lamps, and it also means that the male is officially recognized as a clan member, and his name will be written in the genealogy, so that he has the right to participate in clan affairs and inherit the ancestral property.

Also known as "silk stocking milk tea", Hong Kong-style milk tea is the outcome of a century-old evolution from English milk tea. This much-loved local beverage takes a few steps to make: blending tea leaves, boiling and infusing the tea, force-pouring the tea, brewing the tea and force-pouring the milk. The tea-making technique does not only epitomise the fusion and development of Hong Kong's East-meets-West food culture, but also gives a glimpse of how locals live and eat.

Tin Hau is a deity revered by many people in East Asia, particularly those who make their living from the sea. She is believed to have the power to control the weather and protect seafarers from harm. According to legend, Tin Hau was a young girl named Lin Moniang who lived in the Fujian province of China during the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD). She was said to have been able to predict the weather and save fishermen from storms and other dangers at sea.

The celebration of Tin Hau's birthday is an important cultural event in these regions. In Hong Kong, for example, the Tin Hau Festival is a public holiday, and many people participate in parades and dragon boat races to honor the goddess. In Taiwan, fishermen decorate their boats with colorful banners and images of Tin Hau, and sail them in a procession to the local temple. These celebrations are a way for people to express their gratitude to the goddess for her protection and blessings, as well as to reinforce their cultural identity and traditions.

The activity has been practised for more than 100 years. Legends say that Cheung Chau was devastated by a plague in the late Qing dynasty. To dispel the disaster, Huizhou and Chiu Chow natives invited accomplished monks and Taoist priests and set up a sacrificial altar in front of Pak Tai Temple to pray to deities, repent and to comfort departed souls from the land and the sea. The residents also paraded deity statues along village lanes. The plague did cease after the ritual. Since then, residents on Cheung Chau have been organising the annual Jiao Festival to express gratitude to Pak Tai for blessing the area with peace. For more than a century, Cheung Chau residents never stopped organising the annual Jiao Festival to dispel disaster and pray for blessings for peace and safety. With residents' participation every year, the ritual has been passed down through the generations. Cheung Chau Jiao Festival was inscribed onto the third national list of ICH in 2011.

Herbal teas, also known as herbal infusions and less commonly called tisanes are beverages made from the infusion or decoction of herbs, spices, or other plant material in hot water. Oftentimes herb tea, or the plain term tea, is used as a reference to all sorts of herbal teas. Many herbs are used in herbal medicine. Some herbal blends contain actual tea (e.g., the Indian classic masala chai).

The term "herbal" tea is often used in contrast to the so-called true teas (e.g., black, green, white, yellow, oolong), which are prepared from the cured leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Unlike true teas (which are also available decaffeinated), most tisanes do not naturally contain caffeine. There are a number of plants, however, that do contain caffeine or another stimulant, like theobromine, cocaine or ephedrine. Some have the opposite effect, acting as a sedative. Some common infusions have specific names such as coffee, mate (yerba mate), and rooibos (red bush).

Puppet theater, also known as puppet theater, dates back to the 1870s, and there is already a historical record of puppet theater classes coming to Hong Kong from Guangzhou and Dongguan. In the early Republic of China, Guangdong puppet performance skills were gradually introduced to Hong Kong; Before the Second Sino-Japanese War, six cane puppet clubs, including "Sheng Ruyi" (later known as "Great World"), "Le Minle", "Yong Zhongxing", "Fu Yonghua", "Fu Hua Nian" and "Pan Dan Gui", had already come to Hong Kong to make a living, and the staff puppet classes from Hainan Island and Foshan also came to Hong Kong from time to time to perform, mainly performing Shengong operas in the countryside. In the late 1930s, due to the war, puppet theatre classes in Hong Kong were completed one after another, and the puppet industry in Hong Kong gradually declined. In the 1970s, under the influence of the Mainland political situation, many famous Mainland puppeteers moved to Hong Kong and continued to develop their puppet careers in Hong Kong. In recent years, the Government and local cultural organisations have invited puppet theatre companies to perform in the community to promote the art of puppetry.
