Name and describe your ecosystem!
My ecosystem is the Deep Ocean. It begins where the shallow ocean waters give way to the dark depths where little or no sunlight penetrates. Here, in the layer underneath the sunlit open oceans, live some of the most bizarre and highly adapted creatures on the planet. With no plants or algae here to photosynthesize (make food from sunlight) and form the base of the food chain, life here is largely dependent on the dead material and droppings that sink down from above.

Where in the world is your ecosystem usually found?
My ecosystem is found all over the world, just below the shallow ocean waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Arctic Oceans!

What types of plants live in your ecosystem?
No plants live here, as there's no sunlight to allow them to survive!

What types of animals live in your ecosystem?
Some animals that live here are the sperm whale, the giant squid, the basking shark, the hermit crab and the angler fish. All of these animals are hunters, as there's no plant life for them to live off of!

List your sources!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/habitats/Deep_sea
