Former President Barack Obama once was told by his former employer that if you learn how to listen to people's stories and can find what's sacred in other people's stories, then you'll be able to forge a relationship that lasts.
This means to me that if you learn how to connect to other people's stories, you can have another perspective of what they say and what they think like, then to have the perspective you had before.

The story starts with Victor's Father not living with his son and soon passing out. Even so, the news of his father's death upsets Victor, and he takes his friend Thomas along for moral support on the drive down to Arizona. During their trip, Thomas tells the story of how, when he was thirteen, he traveled nearly fifty miles to Spokane Falls, expecting to have a vision, how his father found him, bought him some food, and treated him kindly. This actually shows that even though his father has been absent his whole life, he was still a good man.

The story starts with Jefferson getting caught in a position where he shouldn't be. As a result getting sentenced to death by electrocution. He's also called an "Hog" and that made her Grandmother want Grant (Brother who's actually a teacher) to teach him some life lessons as so by her wish at least he dies as a "Man". During the meetings of Grant and Jefferson, Jefferson connects to what Grant is saying and actually betters himself, making Grant learn something out of him too.

The Store starts with Eveline sitting window in her home and looks out onto the street while fondly recalling her childhood, when she played with other children in a field now developed with new homes. She lives with her Father who is abusive at times. She then meets a sailor who she fells in love with which is Frank. He wants to leave Dublin, marry her and live with her in Buenos Aires. As she's making her decision on leaving her father or not, she does remember the letters her mother wrote, revealing her inability to let go of those family relationships, despite her father’s cruelty and her brother’s absence. She makes the choice of not going with Frank, but there would have been an understanding if she could have shared her feelings to everyone as of what she's going through.

“Girl” consists of a single sentence of advice a mother imparts to her daughter. She intends the advice to both help her daughter and scold her at the same time. She also warns her not to be a "Slut" as the society wont give her any respect. The Mother is giving practical and helpful advice that will help her daughter keep a house of her own some day. She's basically "preparing" her as she has gone through all of it and understands the process. She is on a strict side, as she wants her to listen to her story forcefully.

The Story starts with Three teenage girls, wearing only their bathing suits, walk into an A&P grocery store in a small New England town.Sammy, a young man working the checkout line, watches them closely. He appraises their looks and notes even minute details about the way they carry themselves. He also speculates about their personalities and their motivation for entering the store dressed the way they are. As the girls begin to leave the store, he quickly quits his job to meet the girls. When he goes outside at the parking lot, he finds out that they are long gone. Giving him no chance for sharing his feelings to the one of the girls she liked.

The story starts with Mama waiting in the yard for her daughter Dee. She also knows that Maggie (Her second daughter) will be nervous as Dee doesn't like her. Dee insults Maggie throughout the story and also wants Mama's quilt that was made for Maggie. As she doesn't get the quilt, she then leaves away with her husband. Dee clearly doesn't understand Maggie's perspective of being hurt and feeling bad as much as her Mama understands her. Mama understands her view point and that is why she made the choice to hand the quilt to Maggie and stay with her, helping her through.

The poem starts with a teacher already mad and states clearly to all students that he is going to teach them a lesson. Picks on a boy and a girl right behind him, then starts doing violence. He started with a sword, moved onto a shotgun and also had a grenade to use. He never even listened to the kids and just voiced his opinion as he could clearly not get the perspective of others.
