The main criticism to the Montessori Method are related on the expensive cost of the school materials, which allows only rich families to this type of education. Other reason is the lack of objects; in fact there aren’t materials for all the students in order to make them collaborative. There are also other reasons like the difficult for children to transition from the Montessori Method into a traditional education. Last but not least there are the criticism on the method that is analytic and not global.

Oliver Twist: childhood during Victorian Age

Childhood during Victorian Age was often a cruel experience.

Lots of children from poor classes and working classes who escaped from poverty, were obliged either to work in factories and mines, or as domestic servant. Sometimes some of them became criminals.

Some governments acts like THA, tried to improve children’s working conditions by limiting the hours worked by women and children.

⇒ Dickens was obsessed with children, whom he presented them as innocents and corrupted by adults.

He expressed those feelings in his novels, with some nostalgia for is passed condition, and to denounce and stress the idea that they were oppressed.

The most important setting is London, which is depicted at three social levels:

lower classes, who lived in dirty conditions, and poverty; they everyday challenges life and risks death

middle classes, who lived better, respecting moral values

higher classes, they conducted society, and often exploit lower classes abusing their rights

Dickens attacked the social evils of his times, such as poor houses, unjust courts and the underworld. In particular he wants to denounce harsh condition of life in workhouses: lack of food, squalid and miserable condition of work and life just because masters in workhouses think that poverty was the consequence of laziness and that the terrible conditions would inspire poor people to improve their lives.

There was a part of society, mainly the working classes, where poverty & misery were still widespread, where the conditions of life & work were very harsh and made worse by the theory of Laissez-faire. This particular situation which saw prosperity & progress on the one hand and poverty & misery on the other was called the VICTORIAN COMPROMISE. It was the attitude of a large section of society that saw industrial development only as a source of progress and tended to ignore or to conceal under a veil of hypocrisy the many social problems of the age.

Many writers, reformers, theorists denounced the social evils and contributed to make people aware of the necessity of reforms. One of the most important writers who denounced the hypocrisy of society was C.Dickens.
