I am very impulsive and make decisions hastily without thinking much. Six months ago, I used to have long hair down to my waist, but suddenly I decided to cut if off, within 5 minutes, after seeing a music video on YouTube where a pretty girl had short hair. However, just one day after, I immediately regretted it, feeling sorry for myself because I had grown it for two years. Although I had learned a lesson after that event, yesterday, I just cut my bangs again in 3 seconds. This shows that even after past regrets, my impulsiveness still stays the same. Thus, I learned that acting too quickly can lead to regret, but pausing briefly can help me make better decisions, so maybe I will try to take a few seconds to think more before deciding doing anything, which can help me avoid unnecessary mistakes. Nevertheless, I think that this personality in me is not always bad as I can be more self-aware and embrace spontaneity to cope with unexpected problems. Moreover, sometimes impulsive decisions can also bring joy, creativity and a fresh start in my life, not just bitter regret. So, maybe impulsiveness is my weird little superpower - when I use it wisely.

Intro: “Freaky Stick Hobby” is a quirky but fresh television programme showcasing the most unusual and eccentric hobbies in the world. Each episode explores the stories among individuals who dedicate themselves to odd but fascinating pastimes, from soap carving to hair-based aesthetic art. Most of all, with humor, curiosity and cinematic visuals, every episode of the show aims to inspire and entertain viewers after long days. 

Idea 1: Soap Carving
Soap carving is the art of turning simple bars of soap into miniature sculptures. It is visually satisfying, easy to follow, and connects with the popular interest in ASMR and mindfulness. This hobby would appeal to audiences because it is relaxing to watch and demonstrates how beauty can be created from the most ordinary materials.

Idea 2: Hair-based Aesthetic Art
Some artists are obsessed with strands of human hair as a creative medium, arranging them into shapes or combining them with natural elements for unique photographs. While slightly eccentric, this hobby is visually striking and thought-provoking. It will fascinate audiences by showing how art can be made from something so familiar but unexpected.

I think these two ideas would add variety to the series by combining creativity with edgy, unconventional artistry. They will not only entertain viewers but also broaden their understanding of how diverse human hobbies can be.

Introduction

The purpose of this report is to outline the current problems with the library at Dong Hoa Campus and suggest possible improvements to make the library more appealing and functional for students, encouraging both reading and independent study.

Current Problems
Right now, the library is quite small and can only hold a limited number of people, which often feels crowded, especially during exam weeks. In addition, the air conditioner in the south corner is partly broken. It still runs, but that area stays warm and stuffy, which makes it hard the students to focus.
Although the library looks modern and tidy, it doesn’t have many books. Because of that, it feels more like a reading room than a real library.

New Technologies and Facilities
One way to improve the space is to add small partitions to the large tables, similar to what you’d see in work-study cafes. These walls would give each student a bit of privacy and help everyone focus better.
It would also be useful to place small silent timers on each desk (the kind that vibrate instead of beeping), so students can manage their study sessions without disturbing others.

Promoting Reading and Independent Study
Most students here already study independently, so what really needs attention is reading. However, the fact is that the number of books is limited, and the library could feel more inviting if we expanded it by connecting it with the room next door. That extra space could hold more shelves and more reading corners.
Instead of creating new events, the library could collaborate with the existing Book Club (The Horizone) to run reading sessions or mini book swaps. This would save effort and still encourage students to read more often.

Conclusion
In short, fixing the air conditioner, adding study partitions and silent timers, expanding the space, and working with the Book Club would make the library a more enjoyable and useful place for everyone.

The Flout (Irony/Sarcasm)

• Situation: In a movie, a character stands in a torrential downpour and says, "What a beautiful, sunny day!"

• Why it's flouted: The speaker is clearly lying, but they want the other person to know they are lying to express their frustration.

• Inference: The speaker is likely annoyed, witty, or pessimistic about the situation.

The Violation (Deception/Lies)

• Situation: In a crime drama, a suspect tells the police, "I was at home all night," when they were actually at the crime scene.

• Why it's violated: The speaker is lying secretly. They do not want the police to know they are breaking the maxim of truthfulness.

• Inference: The speaker is dishonest, manipulative, or trying to protect themselves from consequences.

Six components of Toulmin model:

1. Claim: Governments should fund free university.

2. Grounds: Many countries with free tuition have higher literacy rates because high tuition costs prevent low-income students from attending.

3. Warrant: Equal access to education is essential for social mobility.

4. Backing: Data shows that socio-economic gaps shrink when education is accessible.

5. Qualifier: This should primarily apply to public institutions.

6. Rebuttal: Unless a country is facing an extreme fiscal crisis where funding education would lead to the collapse of other essential services like healthcare.

Paragraph:

In many nations around the world where university tuition fess are funded by the government, literacy rates tend to be higher, such as Germany, as financial barriers do not prevent students from low-income backgrounds from pursing higher education. This is important because when everyone can access university regardless of their economic status, socio-economic gaps gradually narrow and societies become more equitable. However, this policy should mainly apply to public universities, as private institutions operate under different financial models. While some argue that free university education is unrealistic during periods of severe fiscal crisis, governments should still prioritise education unless funding it would seriously threaten essential public services such as healthcare.

Part I struggled with: The warrant of course. TT

Reason: I often focus on providing evidence but do not clearly explain how that evidence supports my claim. I sometimes confuse examples with logical explanation.

Why this happens: I am much used to describing facts than analysing the connection between ideas.

How I can improve: I will practise identifying warrants in high-scoring IELTS sample essays and focus on explaining why my evidence is relevant, not just what it shows.
