How do we respect the rights and dignity of human beings who are considered by many societies to be "out of the box"?

Human rights have evolved, so much so that there are many institutions that endorse them, however, not all human beings know and enforce them, and so does dignity. There are also people who respect that of others. Those people who do, are considered out of the box.

Who decides who enters and leaves?

The same society is creating a trend, the people who follow it are inside the box, those who are not the ones outside.

How do we learn this? Can we change our perspective?

With the customs of each society, we simply apply those we have been taught. The perspective changes depending on the needs, whether good or bad.

How can we be interculturalally competent to deal with issues related to sexism, heterosexism and transphobia?

Obtaining information on the different cultures, customs and on the new changes that are present in the other countries. Each society has a different way of dealing with these issues.

Who taught you what it means to be a man or a woman?

From the moment of birth we receive a treatment that tells us about what sex we are, the treatment and the way we talk are the main characteristics of this learning.

Do you think that gender roles are learned?

They learn according to the education of our relatives, teachers and the people close to us. Over time, we learn about gender roles, interacting with others in different contexts.

Box one

Have you ever heard someone being told to "act like a man"?

The process of formation of Little boys is practically based on "acting as a man", there are different situations, when a child cry for some reason is said to "have to act as a man" or say "men do not cry ".

It is an action that is used to forge the character of the man, which informs not to express the feelings.

How are men supposed to be different from women?

They are different in the fact of expressing feelings, it is also assumed that men are more rude and women are more delicate,

What feelings does a "real man" have?

A real man knows that usually they are the ones who lead the leadership in different situations, therefore one has to show security for the decision making, speaking of more emotional subjects I can say that only those feelings that are worth it are expressed Show, also show a great respect to those people who deserve it by showing off this as gentlemen.

How are "real men" supposed to act sexually?

Chivalry is an act by which they distinguish, kindness with the woman is a way of being sexually active, being respectful and honest are qualities that attract the true woman more than the physical elements. Making the woman feel confident that she is in good hands are characteristics that a real man shows.

Box two

Have you ever heard or heard someone being told to "act like a lady"?

Yes, in situations in which a woman is behaving abruptly, rudely, not delicately, or having very little female reactions, she is told to "act like a lady" by referring to her as being a person with delicacy, Tender, prudent, etc. In this way each person who is forming the woman, uses this phrase to influence his behavior and the way of thinking.

How are women supposed to be different from men?

Women have more delicate behaviors, a woman is a more sentimental person or who takes more personal things since they are guided most of the time by what they feel and not by what they really should do. While men are harder in the sentimental aspect, they become rude, abrupt, with thoughts, attitudes, reactions, etc., are also more practical when acting.

How do "true women" express their feelings?

Women at the moment of expressing their feelings can become a bit shy as they come to have a fear of being rejected. A woman needs to feel loved and protected while a man is more a feeling of being admired or needed. It is important for the woman to feel valuable enough to deserve the effort to be 'stalked', this satisfies her need to be loved and desired.

In the case of exposing their feelings towards others is not as complicated as they are more open for this subject, while a man is tougher in this regard by "who will say."

Some final reflections:

What do you notice about the influence of male and female stereotypes on sexism, heterosexism and transphobia?

From the beginning heterosexism is the most decent thing that exists, nevertheless always has been different cases of sexism of the man towards the woman and viceversa, and the cases of transphobia was of the most common, however with the passage of time these attitudes have Diminished, being more tolerant with opposite sex and with the sexual preferences of each person, all this can vary depending on the customs and traditions of each society.

How is the influence of the mothers' help with the stereotypes of the boxes related?

The relationship that a mother has with her children is of the utmost importance since she is the one who gives the main formation from a young age, she is the one who indicates how we should act, what is right, what is wrong; Therefore it greatly influences our behavior. "Behaving as a man, (man)" is one of the phrases that both the father and the mother mention their son to behave in a less sentimental, more rude and less weak. Instead a woman is more flexible as parents make more mention of "behaving like a lady" referring to behaving in a more delicate and less abrupt.

Does staying inside the box really bring security or power to everyone?

Staying inside the box allows one to feel secure in a certain way, since for years the customs have been the same and almost have not changed, therefore society follows what his parents once taught him about the stereotypes and the roles of gender. On the other hand, also with the time have arisen different types of needs what causes that the society changes and imposes other type of exigencies that are being adopted little by little. This leads to stereotypes do not indicate that it is correct and that not, therefore does not mean that following inside the box is obtained a security or power for all, likewise, within it may be errors, taking into account that Not all men or all women act in the same way; Speaking of both genders some are more sensitive, others are tougher with each other and with themselves.

Which picture has more power in our cultural group and in the Zapotec community?

In our cultural group, the masculine sex has more power because for years it has been considered predominant in the important decisions of different contexts, nevertheless it has been fought by a gender equity where the woman also participates in the important decisions.

Speaking of the Zapoteca community, the society is very tolerant to the decisions of each person, for several reasons, muxes is a group that is respected by the ancestors and has become a habit for

What could make change possible with respect to social expectations of gender?

Mainly knowing how to respect the decisions, preferences and opinions of others. If we start with the respect forgetting of a racism towards the people with different sexual preferences could show a great change because in this way there would be less conflicts, likewise the society becomes more tolerant to this type of circumstances. As a consequence of the cultures and traditions they change for good or for evil, teaching to the new generations on the respect to the sexual diversity.
