I selected this book because it seemed complicated. The wording seemed easy but the character seemed complicated and hard to figure out and interesting. So I felt the need to read it.

Tell us about the characters in your story. Do you like them? Do you relate to them in any way? Explain. 5/4

The character name is John. John is very unreliable immediately starting on page five. He was describing how he was in a tree watching his mom and his step father that abuses him cuddle on the couch. Then on page five he states, "Expect that I am actually up there doing homework after all! Did you really think that I was up in the branches of an apple tree?" I personally can relate to John to an extent. John is a freshman who hated everything and trusted no one, which was how I was my freshman year. I do like John as a character because he reminds me of Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye.

What is/are the major conflicts in the book? Do they relate to any conflicts in our world today?

The major conflict in this book is that John is being abused my his step father and his mom is unaware of all of this. John is also 14 year old boy who in entering high school so he also has to figure out the struggles of high school while keeping the abuse from his mom a secret. The conflicts do relate to today's world because there are people who do unfortunately get abused by their parents and have to keep it a secret. But the high school conflicts that John has definitely relatable . He has a crush on his best friend (who John claims isn't his friend) Billy's crush but when Billy gets arrested John goes for it but things turns badly quickly.
