I was working as a sales associate in Urban Outfitters where a lady approached me asking for advice on what to buy her granddaughter for her birthday, she explained she hadn't shopped here before, but her granddaughter loved it. I found it hard to give advice when I couldn't see or speak to the girl, I knew I had to speak to the lady for some time to really understand more about what she might like, so I did. Firstly, I told her about the ranges we sold, Jewellery, Shoes, Clothes, Vinyl, and Homeware She then told me what areas she'd like, and I proceeded to take her around the shop suggesting options she could go for. The lady then picked a Jacket she thought would be perfect and was extremely satisfied with her choice She thanked me multiple times and left the shop smiling. Through this interaction, I learnt that being casual and friendly was the most efficient way to help in this scenario and made the lady feel relaxed and confident in her decision Next time, I would try to approach the lady first instead of waiting for her to approach me.

 

 

Q2

I had just begun my new part-time job as a sales associate in June alongside the final project of my first year which required a lot of time and dedication to produce a practical and written outcome. I quickly realised that my new job wanted me to work more hours than I could fit around the project and so I became wary of falling behind. I found it hard to say no to more hours as I wanted to give a good impression. I decided to take action on the situation otherwise I'd be regretful for not prioritising university. I explained my worries to my manager and expressed how the next three weeks would be important, so I needed fewer hours and that after the three weeks I wanted to work more. I then focused on my project and my manager was understanding. I ended up being happy with the outcome of my project whilst balancing work well. In this situation, I learnt that being honest and realistic was most important. Next time, I'd reassure myself that my priorities come first, and a healthy balance is possible.

 

 

Q3 

Working in retail has allowed me to grow in confidence and experience working under pressure as well as communication skills. Along with this my university course has pushed me to grow creatively and pushed me to believe in myself. This combination has encouraged me to define my areas in the industry, the main being second-hand, sustainability and upcycling. Depop is the Gen Z pioneer for second-hand fashion that provides the nostalgia that roots every trend today. I am a Depop shopper myself and have been for a while with many favourite accounts. I attended the Depop market at Hatch.
