I have lived in a small town in Virginia my entire life. I love living in a mountainous area, however I wouldn't mind living in a warmer climate someday.

Currently, I am a full time student and I substitute in schools when I am needed. Previously, I worked full time in the child protective services unit at The Department of Social Services where I was a family services specialist. I love being able to help children and I want to continue to help children as I further my education.

Hobbies and Interests

One of my favorite past times is jewelry making. I love making items with my hands. My favorite jewelry to make is earrings. I enjoy making jewelry and giving it to family and friends.

I also really enjoy going to zumba classes. Zumba is a great time to forget about all of your worries and dance your stress away.

Professional Goal- School Counselor

Since childhood, my aim has been to support others, particularly children. I watched my mother help countless children with special needs. The impact she made on those young people’s lives is an impact I would like to emulate in the future. Children face numerous daily challenges, where they need guidance and support from a well-educated adult. Earning a school counselor degree will allow me the opportunity to work with kids in a face to face setting. In helping today’s youth it is actually helping me accomplish my lifelong dream of supporting children in the school system. I feel I will be an ideal asset to the school system because I have background experience working with children and other professional individuals.

I realize how significant an education is, not only to create a basis of knowledge to help me in my field, but also from a professional stand point and for personal growth. I am extremely committed to doing whatever is necessary to be the best school counselor possible. This means being dedicated to gaining knowledge in the classroom, and gaining wisdom from life experience. Both are equally essential to my success.

I hope this course teaches me how to prepare students for their life outside of high school.

Old Dominion University

I earned my undergraduate degree in Human Services and Counseling from Old Dominion University in December of 2014. I really enjoyed my classes and quickly learned that I wanted to continue my education and further my counseling career. In the Spring of 2016 I began working towards my Master's at Gwynedd Mercy University. Continuing my education was a great choice and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me.

What Interests Me Most About School Counseling

What interests me most about school counseling is finding ways to establish trust and build rapport with students. I think it will be an incredible experience when students begin trusting me and opening up to me with their feelings and emotions. I look forward to helping students through their struggles. I also have a great interest in classroom guidance. I look forward to working in the classroom setting and helping teachers learn ways to better serve their students.
