What does it mean to be an “outsider”? I think that this can mean a lot of different things. The first thing that comes to my mind is being lonely. Being on the “outside” of a group of people can not only be lonely, but also sometimes sad. If you feel like an outsider because of assumptions or judgements that others have made it can be hurtful. Being judged is not fun, especially when you start to believe those judgements.

On the other hand though being an outsider can be a positive. For example, if the group of people who are making you feel outside the group are not nice people, why would you want to be a part of that group. Depending on what time of your life you are in and your own self value makes a difference in how it feels to an outsider.

Something that changed my life permanently was when my aunt that i loved to death and supported me no matter what that passed of liver cancer. Because when this happened i was with my friends driving home from a hawks game about to get home and when we had to cancel our plans for the night when my dad told me that she is really sick and may not live. He wanted me to have a chance to say goodbye before i can’t. I went and i can’t stress enough how heartbreaking it was to see her in this sort of pain and unknowingness. 2 days later she was free to go home and that night she had died in her sleep. This was sad because she went to anything of mine and did anything to be there for me. She hid the sickness for many of many of years and kept it from us and the cancer one day got the best of her. Now everything i do i do it for her. And i will never forget how much she helped encouraged and loved me.

Someone might join a gang to get protection, intimidate someone and sometimes to even get money from robberies or they might join a gang to get a status. Sometimes people have to join a gang because it’s in their family/bloodline or they don’t have a family so they join a gang to make it feel like they have a family. For example, if your family dies than you can join a gang to get a family your whole life. But what the hard thing is, is you can never leave a gang. Once you’re in it you’re in it forever.

I am here to tell you what it means to be one and how it feels. So being an outsider is something definitely not something everyone feels. When you are an outsider you are left out, not in the big groups. And the worst part about it is you get bullied. I get picked on pretty often. Also outsiders are a lot of times into smoking. They get so messed up that it just becomes part of them. I don’t do it, but a lot of outsiders do. But something I learned from a teacher at school is you don’t give a care what people say when you are an adult. I am excited.

Being an outsider means that you are excluded from everybody and treated differently from everybody else that your friends treat other people or your other friends when I was in 4th grade there was kids that were making fun of me and being rude about the way I looked and the way my eye was and it felt like I was trying so hard to be apart of their group but they kept making fun of me and it hurt to think about. There was eventually people who became friends with me but yet there was even more people making fun of me. I kind of just gave up at this point and didn’t really talk to anybody unless I was in a conversation with my friends outside of school. Today, in 7th grade, April 25, 2019 I was being bullied because my “FRIENDS” were being mean to me because I was wearing an “OFF BRAND” shoes so now i’m just going along in these comfortable shoes just trying to get through 2 days of school and watching the movie Avengers Endgame this weekend

What it means to be a outsider? Is someone who doesn’t belong in a certain thing or group. For example like if your friends had joined other people and they say you don’t belong here so now he had became a outsider:(! Or when people say you don’t belong in this sport or judging you then you might take yourself as a outsider. To me no one is a outsider everyone is perfect and belong in this world no one is better or perfect everyone is the same.

Also this winter my Aunt died from a heart attack on Christmas day and it was right across the street from at my grandparents house so I saw all the lights from the cops, firetruck, and ambulance. I didn’t know what happen until my papa called my sister and she ran into the room and said my Aunt isn’t breathing. At that moment I knew that I lost my Aunt. 😢

One time my life changed unexpectedly is when i had to move from Texas to Chicago and because it honestly came out of nowhere and i didn't expect it at all.I had to leave all my “day one” friends behind because of that and it was really hard for like the first 2-3 months i was here and till this day still it still is because i cant trust no one like i did back there were i could actually trust people with my deepest things i have and it just feels different here but i gotta admit it has gotten better a little bit and now that it's getting better and kinda trust some people and i'm getting used to it i'm moving back and honestly i do want to but i finally got used to it here so i know it's gonna be hard moving back and leave the people i actually trusted but im probably gonna be happier in my hometown.

Since 3rd grade my parents have been divorced. The day they told me they were getting into a divorce, I couldn’t believe it. I was young so I thought, why would they get married if they were going to get divorced. Around a few weeks later my dad moved out and then my mom, sister, and I had to move to a smaller house. I then only went to my dad’s house every other weekend. My mom met someone, which is now my step-dad, and they got married in 2016. After they got married my mom, step-dad ,sister and I moved to Manhattan. It was hard because I moved pretty far away from my best friends and my dad. I don’t see them often but I still am happy I am able to see them every now and then.

One thing that has permanently changed my life was when my grandpa had cancer. He was so excited to finally have a boy grandson after having all girls, then I was born. Me and my family would always go and see my grandpa and have good times with him. Until one day he was very sick and he was diagnosed with cancer. We were devastated and we saw him as much as we could, then he had all the procedures to try to cure the problem after a long time the cancer was gone but it was not the same as it was before. It was so good to go back and see him and his dog was so happy too, we could see him like always but it was not the same.

The 1960’s was a great time for the changing of American Culture. From the Beatles to Barbie Dolls. One popular culture in the 1960’s was being a hippie. Being a hippie meant that you were part of a counter cultural movement that rejected the mores of mainstream. They mostly dressed in bell bottoms and A line mini skirts with floppy hats and big circle sunglasses. Also, the music was changing. Some popular artist or bands were The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, and The Monkeys. This was a huge turning point in American Music. People were also dressing differently. New trends arose like silk skirts, knee high boots, high slit skirts, college sweaters, and fuzzy tights. This was also the time where Barbie Dolls were really becoming popular. The movies were also changing into more action packed like James Bond’s Gold-finger or The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. The 1960’s was a huge turning point in American Culture.

What is an “outsider” an outsider is someone who typically does not fit in and I would know what that feels like. It all started this 7th grade year when my friends did not have the same classes as me and I had to fit into a new group of friends. Now at first everything was great everyone got along so well and then toward the middle of the year that’s when things started getting worse. My so called “friends” started getting mad at me for no reason and started not including me in things. At first all I wanted to do is scream and cry but then I realized why should I be sorry for something I didn’t do. So right now I am trying to fit into a new group of friends that won’t be mad at me so then I can be happy like the beginning of the year but I have nothing in common with these people so I feel like an outsider right now.

Some people might join the gang do to family problems. Trying to protect their family. Most people who are in the gang usually join the gang to protect their family and so they don't get hurt. People in Chicago cant walk outside, sit on their porch, do daily activities, or even walk to school because of the gangs around their neighborhood. Many people get shot or have had a family member die do to gangs. If you joined the gang you are now “respected” and now feel like they are safe and others cant harm them. Their are now many ex gang members that are trying to make a change. They get their tattoos off (removed). Some even try to help their old communities. Most of the shooting in Joliet, Chicago, almost anywhere else are gang related sometimes its people just trying to fit in. Some people who join the gang need money or they don't have a choice it's just in the family so they are kind of forced into it. If you want to leave a gang you can just move out of state, you can get your tattoos removed, it's hard to get out because once you are in you are in forever but if you really wanted to you could get out of it. Just remember why people join the gang. We all need to be very grateful/ happy that we live in a very low crime rate town.

To be an “outsider” is just to be different, when you’re different you could be judged, then when you get judged you then can change your character or yourself, and how you act. This leads to being an “outsider” from starting then you feel forced to change and not be yourself to not be an “outsider” since, (correct me if I’m wrong) not a lot of people want to be an outsider and be different and all want to be similar just to fit in or be a “cool kid”. Which the phrase “cool kid” is stupid because tell me when you’re in a job interview, the interviewer is going to ask “In school, growing up were considered you a cool kid?” or you have to include it on your résumé to get the job. So in conclusion being an “outsider” isn’t a bad thing at all so if you want to be a “cool kid” go ahead nobody’s stopping you but, if you have to go out of you out of your way then you should just stop but, still I’m not stopping you nobody really is.

I think martin Luther king jr is a hero because with most of the country being white racist people he stood up for what he believed even that he ended up getting killed for a better future.

The reason I think people join gangs because they want to be “cool” or get “street cred”.I think gangs is not a good thing at all.I think that gangs are bad because normally when people join gangs they are given a task to kill a person and that person is most likely very innocent. There was a story a couple years ago in Detroit that a kid was shot 3 times (lucky is still alive) by a kid who he knew since kindergarten decided to join a gang and tried to kill him.In my opinion gang activity isn’t okay and it should be stopped and we are losing family, friends, and other people because other people are making poor decisions to join a gang.
