Dred Scott was a slave in Missouri from 1833-1843. He lived in Illinois (free state), Louisiana where slavery was illegal. After returning to Missouri he sued the state saying that he was a free man.

After interrogation, police obtained a written confession from Miranda. Police officers later admitted that they had not advised Miranda of his right to have an attorney present during the interrogation. The Fifth Amendment requires that law enforcement officials advise suspects of their right to remain silent and to obtain an attorney during interrogations while in police custody. On the President's side, he wasn't wrong to do it since the President can do whatever he wants. On the other, the President isn't above the law, & he committed a federal crime.

It was a unanimous 8-0 decision that Nixon was guilty.
