The Amish homes are build by themself. When a barn are going to be built then all of the Amish people from that villages comes to help them built it, there can be up to 700 people helping.
the homes are very traditional and not like our homes, they do not have tv's or a fridge to store their food . They do not have electricity so therefore the only light they have is maybe an oil lamp, fireplace or candles. They dont have a toilet inside. They have something called the Outhouse and thats where they go if they have to pee or poop. The homes are big because an amish family gets a lot of children. So they have to have the space for their kids.
Nearly every Amish homes are built with a spacious basement, witch can serve as a church gathering room, wash room, play space, storage for canned goods, or living space during warmer rooms.
White is the most popular color for the exterior of Amish homes, but in some communities they are built in different shades.
Vibe, Natasja, Josephine

Luna, Katrine, Isabella
The Amish are known for their old fashioned attire. The women wear long dresses in blue, green or purple and a bonnet is a must. Girls can wear colourful bonnets but grown women must wear black ones.
Older women wear half-aprons over their dresses while girls wear smocks.
On Sundays married women wear a black half-apron to church and unmarried wear full white ones.

Males usually wear dark clothes without any buttons on their jackets because they symbolise the military and the Amish are not very fond of the military. Hats are a obligatory when they are outside; in winter the hats are made of black felt and when it's summer they wear ones made of straw.
On Sundays they wear black suits with a white shirt and black vest.

When he teenagers turn 16 they begin these years called "Rumspringa" where many of the Amish teenagers experience the outside world which also means that they wear what we know as everyday clothes (e.g. jeans). Females might also try on make-up, which is not allowed by the Amish because it's considered unimportant and the Amish are all about the simple life.

As not mentioned in the previous paragraphs, the Amish make the clothes themselves so there's nothing in the closets that's bought from a clothing store/mall. That might be a bit obvious based on the clothes they wear on an everyday basis.

But after some of them have tried "modern" clothes and then go back to the Amish community they usually don't look the same way at their clothes as they had before. In the documentary "The Devils Playground" a girl talked about her wedding dress that she'd sown herself. Before Rumspringa she thought it was the prettiest dress but afterwards it didn't really look as well because now she'd seen what other people outside of the Amish community wear and that kind off ruined the image she had of the dress.

Anna Emilie, Johanne, Leah
Family is a fundamental thing in Amish society. In the amish family the father is the head of the family. He makes the decisions and the women needs to accept and respect that.
The average amount of children in an amish family is 7. The tasks are clearly divided by sexual role in the Amish family. The man works on the farm, while the woman does all the cleaning, cooking and other household chores. The children also have alot of chores, depending of their gender. They speak pennsylvania dutch at home, but they also learn english at school. The childrens childhood is filled with strict rules and if they don't obey them, they will get punished.
Amish marry amish, intermarriage is not allowed. Divorce is not permitted and separation is very rare.

Matti, Marcus, Jonas
The Amish have a very strict interpretation of the Bible. They live modest and without electricity or other modern technology because their religion tells them so, instead they devote their time on family, community and work. If someone breaks their unwritten code of behavior, they are shunned and have to leave the community. Before being baptised, which is also first at adulthood, and accepting the Amish faith, Amish teenagers are allowed to have their Rumspringa, a period in which the community rules are easend and they are allowed to travel the world before settling down.

One of their main beliefs is being in this world but not of this world. Meaning they try to have as little as possible to do with the outside world. Christian holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Ascension Day and Pentecost are celebrated by the Amish. For one exception. They do not believe in Santa Claus and they do nut decorate a Christmas tree but to do exchange Christmas presents as in the bible.

Funerals are held in the home. The body stays in the house for a couple of days before being buried in Amish cemetery. That is simply something they practice because it is similar to the death of Jesus Christ.

Their religious services are held every other Sunday, usually in different homes. From a very early age the children are tought to be very obedient and to sit quietly. You can say it’s mandatory for the children because the service lasts for 3-4 hours and they sit on hard backless benches. After the service they gather to have a large meal with up to 300 people.

Weddings are usually held in November and December, mainly because there aren’t much farming to be done. There is absolutely no form for divorce and once an Amish man married he grows a beard, which is a symbol for their military persecutors in Europe.

Casper, Christian, Emil, Frederik
Rumspringa is the German term for “running around”, and is an Amish tradition, where Amish teenagers get to decide, whether they want to join the Amish church or not. This rite of passage, begins when they are 16 years old.

The teenagers get to experience the outside world, dress like modern people, make use of modern technology and socialize with other teens that are non-Amish. Rumspringa is very important, because the teens have to use this period to decide how they want to live for the rest of their lives. It can take many years, because there is no deadline, so they can do it after 1 year or after 30 years.

When their Rumspringa is over, they decide if they want to get baptized and continue living as Amish, or live as modern people. Surprisingly, around 90% of Amish teenagers choose to join the Amish church. When they are baptized, they have declared their Christian faith, vowed to be faithful members of the church for the remainder of their lives. If the Amish people then break the rules, they will get shunned and excommunicated.
