The Swing Kids, or "Swing Heil", were a group of young people during WW2. They were one of the many groups that resisted the reign of Hitler and defied the Nazis.

The Origin 2(The Name)

The Swing Kids were very rebellious. They drew graffiti on walls, beat up Nazis, and many other things. However, they were the most well known for their music. They would often get together, get drunk, and listen to American Jazz. They would dance and have a great time with no rules, which angered the Nazis. Their music is where they got their name.

The Nazis hated the fact that so many young people were enjoying themselves and defying Hitler. So, the Nazis took action. They banned drinking alcohol at night and banned radios, hoping to stop their antics. However, this only strengthened the will of the Swing Kids.

The Consequence

Eventually, some of the Swing Kids were individually caught. Every single one that was caught was killed no matter what. Even though they knew the consequences, the Swing Kids resisted the reign of Hitler anyway.

A surviving member of the Swing Kids, Hans-Jürgen Massaquoi, once said: "The Nazis hated our guts. Any chance they had, they would kick us in the pants or make life miserable for us. There was nothing ideological about us. We were nonpolitical, just anti Nazi regimentation. It was just a total turnoff. We didn’t want to be bothered by this nonsense."

The Impact

In the end, even though the Swing Kids didn't know it yet, they provided great hope to everyone. Even though they had no immediate effect, many years later we still talk about their influence today.
