Since the mid 1800’s a lot has been added, “This equates to a current constitutional length 8.5 times longer than the 1802 constitution and more than 5.5 times longer than the 1851 constitution as adopted” (2). One specific addition has been the adoption of initiatives. They allow, “people within a state [to start] an Initiative to change the laws and/or state constitution without using the state legislators to do it” (4).

Explain how the Ohio Constitution is an evolving document.

The fact that Initiatives we’re adopted shows that the Ohio constitution has evolved, and continues to do so. Over time, citizens have had more opportunities to be a part of laws and regulations. Lending their voice to society and making a difference in their community are things that weren’t always available. It is evident that the document evolves and adapts it’s people as time passes by.

How does the Constitution of Ohio set up government in Ohio?

Like every other constitution, the Ohio constitution is set up to protect it’s citizens. In order to adapt to each state, “States must aim to create a constitution that is flexible and adaptable to potential changes” (3). They must determine that all subject matters are essential and must be kept simple so assist to not micromanage the government.
