As Ebenezer was heading to bed, a ghost of his past friend and business partner appears before him. This ghost was named Jacob Marley. He had cashboxes, ledgers, deeds, and other money related items strapped to him as a long chain. Marley explains how if Scrooge continues down his path of greed, he will end up like him, a ghost chained down by his past mistakes. Marley also warns Scrooge about 3 ghosts arrival, that will show him his entire life when the clock strikes 12.

The second part of the rising action is when Scrooge was met by the Ghost of Christmas Present. The Ghost of Christmas Present shows Scrooge how everyone, even those who don't care about him are having such a good time! His employee Bob Cratchit despite being neglected by Scrooge is still grateful for being taken in by him for a job. Even his crippled kid is still grateful for everything they have! His nephew Fred is having a good time with his friends and family, throwing a grand feast and games. Their less fortunate lives are still filled with more joy than Scrooge's. As Scrooge goes through all the joy that the world can bring, he starts to learn that money isn't everything in life, that he should change his ways.

The first part of the rising action was when a ghost of small proportions appears and is tasked with showing Scrooge his past. They visit Scrooge's old school, where he started his lonely journey. His old ball with his old boss Fezziwig, where he met the love of his life. And finally, when he lost it all to his undesirable life of greed.

The exposition in the story "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, starts by establishing the setting in the story. A Christmas Carol takes place in 1800 London. The main protagonist of the story Ebenezer Scrooge has internal conflicts with him being greedy and selfish causing him to set himself to be the antagonist of the story too. Some reasons that he was greedy were shown through his verbal and physical language were arguing with others finical decisions and laughing at the less fortunate giving the reader the idea that he is going to need to change for the better if he wants to have a less depressing life.

The resolution ends as a denouement with Scrooge deciding to redeem himself, living in the past, present, and future all at once. He learned his lesson and even started to give right away, spreading his money, giving away expensive gifts, and going as far as raising him employees pay! He wants to be remembered as a man that everyone could love rather then the greedy man he once was.
