Duke has a 2 week Drop/Add period at the beginning of the semester when students can add or drop classes.
2. This extended period of time causes confusion in class lists and students could possibly miss up to the first two weeks of a class. Because of this, some faculty are hesitant to start important work at the start of the semester.  As graduate student semesters are only 13 weeks long, this delay can affect instruction and learning.
3. In order to address this problem, Duke should limit the Drop/Add period to 1 week. Students should be able to make decisions on the classes they wish to take within the first week of the semester. Lasalle Loop Bus is too crowded in morning rush hour while H6 Bus is almost empty. Sometimes students are not able to take the LL bus because it is full. And they are not able to take the H6 bus because H6 bus does not share the stops with LL bus.
2. The students can be late for courses because they can not take the buses. 
3. If Duke had added stops for H6 Bus, more students would have been able to catch the bus and arrive on time.

Fact: The library is closed at 12 am for Friday and Saturday.
Suggest: Hope it can be extended to 24 hours since even during weekend, some students need library to work out or discussion. 
Example: Olivia had team homework due on Sunday and needed to discuss with team members. They do not finish until 12 am on Saturday but the library was closed and they had no places to discuss. 
 
Fact: The Duke Safe ride only drives student from University to their apartments. 
Suggest: Hope Duke ride can pick up students from their apartments and drive them to Duke. Sometimes students may remind they have some business in Duke in the late night, the most convenient and safest way is to take ride from Duke. 
 
Fact: LL loop is not available during weekend.
Suggest: Hope LL loop could be in service during weekend. It will be convenient for students who do not own car to go to the market. 
Example: Ziwen wanted to go Kroger during weekend, but since there is no public transportation, he needed to walk to the market and back with a lot of stuffs.

Step 2: Why: Academic advisors are important for the success of students 
  1. Provide guidance on course selection to ensure courses are suitable for students
  2. Assess  student's interest and guide student on pursuing their research or career goals
  3. Help student to reach their full potential 
Step 3: Suggestions: To achieve these, students need sufficient time with advisors, have regular mentoring sessions. 
  1. Faculties commit more time into mentoring 
  2. More advisors: Senior faculties provide more training to junior faculties so there will be more faculties who can mentor students 

If faculty had committed more time into mentoring, students would have had more guidance from professors.
