Foam shaped letters can be used to create words that can be copied onto a piece of paper. You can make the experience a bit more interesting by having the student add paint for texture and stamp the letters which can form words onto paper. These foam shaped letters also provide a sensory gratification because they can be manipulated by squeezing the letter foam, then each will return to their original shape.

Lego blocks are a great way to bring in UDL into the learning experience. the educator writes and creates an original word on the Lego blocks ex. BIG. Then the student is asked to match the letters by building the appropriate word either on top of the original word or below. This method is both visual, kinesthetic, tactile and auditory. The student then can sound out the word that they see, move blocks around and then read the word aloud.
