There are two areas that resonate with me in the position of a CET lecturer:
(1) Developing an integrated high-quality system of education and training that responds to constantly evolving needs; and
(2) Foster a culture that supports and celebrates lifelong learning.

(1) CET students, usually adults with full-time jobs and young families, need access to an integrated system that will support their learning in their busy lives. That the system should be of high quality is also very important, especially with the competition of online classes available on the internet.

(2) A change in the mindset is critical, the younger the students are to understand the necessity of lifelong learning, the better. Once this is viewed as a positive experience, the learning will become less of a chore.

Personally, promoting employer recognition and career development based on skills and mastery relates the most to my role as a CET lecturer. My students must be working for an ATO as a requisite before they can be accepted into this Advanced Diploma ELP. We are encouraging employers to support and recognise this direct pathway towards becoming a Chartered Accountant for our diploma graduates. The program is rigorous and demanding which students are expected to acquire skills and mastery of the different domains within a short span of 18 months.

It is important for us to recognise that education can no longer be clearly divided into PET and CET as before. Lifelong learning and keeping relevant to industry and business requires acquisition of new knowledge and skills that build upon our experiences.
