THE FOUNDING OF TENOCHTITLAN, Bodleian Library, Broad Street, Oxford, UK

This artwork is shaped by the conquest since it portrays an idealized representation of the city of Tenochtitlan. So this was created 20 years after the Spanish army conquered Mexico, which means that the creator was able to provide information about the conquest of the former Aztec empire. The bluelines reflected the waterways divide the city into four quarters and also indicate the lake surrounding it.

It is significant because most Aztec books were destroyed in the wake of the Spanish invasion, so this painting can provide information about Aztec before the conquest is pretty essential. The place Tenochtitlan was called by the Aztecs settled in this area, which indicates the period where Aztecs controlled much of Mexico. And this art shows the Eagle story of why they chose to settle down in this place. The style of this work is also essential, it is more storytelling and symbolized, compared to naturalism.

The is a site of a surviving example of Inca architecture. The Inca Empire was one of the largest states in the world. The location of this site, Cuzco, was the capital of this empire. Therefore, this work was shaped by colonialism and conquest. Since then, through conquest, the Inca Empire has conquered most of its vast territory. So by that time, they are the ones who started the massive construction, including more than 23,000 miles of road that they built to speed transport and communication.

This work is significant since it shows the Inca builders can create stonework structures of great refinement and durability. Especially it reveals one of their technique, the Inca Masonry. It is important since it shows the expansion of the Inca empire’s power and their settlement spread their transitions and architecture into these areas.

This was definitely affected by the conquest. This temple is at the center of Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan was one of the largest cities back then that was occupied by the Aztec. This piece is a reconstruction because the city was torn down when Spaniards conquested it.

It is important since this temple reflected that there was once a huge and prosperous city existed. But were destroyed by the conquest, and most of the massive monuments are gone. Till this date, there arn’t much left in the site, but the reconstruction can give a sense of how enormous and gorgeous this structure was.

Hard to know where exactly they were first made since

it is associated with the nomadic Native Americans and nomadic means they travelled around.

This work was shaped but also affected by the conquest. When European settlers on the eastern seaboard began to turn forests into farms, they put increasing pressure on the Eastern Woodlands peoples, seizing their lands and forcing them westward. Because of the conquer, people on the Great Plains developed two ways of living, one is the traditional agricultural way, and the other is the nomadic way. The nomadic group of people developed a light and portable dwelling called Tipi.

It is significant since it shows how people adapted to another way of living and invented a new type of dwelling. These houses are important especially to indigenous people since they traveled often and they need shelter to keep them safe from the outside climates.

This piece of art is affected by colonialism. For example, in this work there is there are little figures wrapping around the head, these figures represent important symbols. Interesting to see some of the figures are foreigners, the portugees traders and solides.

This is significant since it shows how the Portuguese helped Esigie expand his kingdom. From the Portuguese trader, we can see the European trade brought non-European luxury goods, aesthetic values to other places.
