How it got started
It started in London. It was used in various places such as the corridor, shopping center, extra.
*Helping the people: The soccer star "Pele" made a soccer field made with pavegen system in Brazil.. In Brazil, there were children who were unable to play soccer at nigh because there was no light. Thus, Pele and the company built a pavegen soccer field in order to help them. While the children played soccer at noon. electricity was stored. The electricity was used to light the field at night. The children in the city were able to play soccer at night from then.

2. Its Real Life Example: Concrete Canvas Shelters - 20326 원서현

1. By whom and when it was invented?
Concrete Canvas, a British material manufacturer, first devised this. In 2004, William Crawport and Peter Bruwin devised shelters that could be built quickly. Concrete canvas was established in August 2005 for full-scale material development and business, and in 2009, they developed concrete canvas, a special fiber.
2. How it got started?
British company, Concrete Canvas recognized that the temporary tent city provided to refugees could not properly protect refugees from various natural environments, so a stronger solution using local materials was needed. As a solution to this, concrete canvas was developed. It was made of materials that could be used in the region, and that could be installed quickly. Also, construction was possible only with water and air.
3. How it operates?
When air is blown inside, the concrete converter unfolds in the form of a greenhouse. All you have to do is spray water from the outside. When the dry concrete mix inside the concrete canvas and water meet, the canvas itself swells and begins to take shape. When concrete hardens, it creates a hard wall. For two people, about an hour or two is enough to blow air into the concrete canvas shell. After spraying water, the concrete hardens within 24 hours to make a concrete canvas shell.

Malaria is very effective to detect and treat early on, but blood tests using a centrifuge are required to determine whether malaria is infected. However, many people died of malaria because people in poor areas do not know if they were infected with malaria because the centrifuge was such an expensive product and needed electricity. Manu Prakash, who saw this sadly, made a simple centrifuge using a spinning top that generates 30,000 times the force of gravity at a rotation speed of about 25,000 rpm.

I believe that appropriate technology is great because it helps not only the poor people but also it can help the whole human society. Appropriate technology can help those who don't have money or resources. However, I believe that the technology doesn't really help the slum people yet. The reason is that the appropriate technology is too expensive. For example, the life straw costs about $23 and the Q-drum cots about $55. Although, it is cheaper than ordinary goods, it is too expensive for the poor people to buy them. Usually, the appropriate technology is donated. In addition, it is said that people fought for the life straw and it caused various crimes.
So I believe that appropriate technology is great but it should be given to all of the poor people in low price to prevent crimes and isolation.

20303 김건우: My opinions about the Pavegen system

In my opinion, pavegen system is great because it is a system which uses the energy which can be disappeared. (the energy may turn into form of energy which can't be used.) In addition, it doesn't require much efforts nor power to make the electricity.
However it has a lot of weak points.
First, the piezoelectricity technology has a bad efficiency. Though it makes the voltage, its electric current is so small that its electrical energy becomes useless. Therefore I believe that the scientists have to improve the efficiency of the pavegen system. Second, its cost is too expensive. It is said that the pavegen system costs about $75~$160 per square foot.
Like pavegen system, we call the technology which collects the outer energy, energy harvesting. Lots of tries on energy harvesting are being tried in these days. I believe that if the efficiency and the cost becomes better, energy harvesting and pavegen system will surely help the human society and the environment of the earth.

Appropriate technology will be a technology that can improve human quality of life and help people. Appropriate technology makes people more convenient.
