Monsoons refer to a weather pattern where wind reverses in direction from cold to warm air. After the reversal the the areas affected change seasons. These seasons are often referred to as dry and rainy season. Monsoons that cause a high air pressure, lower temperature, and the decrease in precipitation are called the winter monsoon. On the other hand, monsoons with low air pressure, and a increase in precipitation, is called the summer monsoon. Respectively, the winter monsoon is also referred to as the dry season, while the summer monsoon is referred to as the rainy season.

During the winter monsoon solar radiation is weak and causes the wind to change directions. This change in the wind causes the ocean to be at low pressure while the land is at high pressure. In turn thsi causes there to be precipitation over the ocean, while at the same time there is little precipitation on land. During the summer monsoon solar radiation is strong which changes the wind direction towards the ocean. This change makes the land have a low pressure and the ocean to have a high pressure, so there will be more precipitation on land.
