I first remember using math in third grade when we learned multiplication tables. To help us learn them, we had different math stations around the room. At one of the stations, we had to use the wrap-ups to match the number (times the multiple) to the answer. We could then check the answers by turning them over and checking the answers on the back. I remember liking these so much that I asked my parents if we could buy some. I think I liked being able to practice and get instant feedback.

I have been able to use my experience in math to help my brother with his math homework. I can use the knowledge that I have to not only help my brother but also help my parents by helping him. It is helpful to have someone help him who has recently been through similar curriculum.

I did not particularly enjoy doing proofs in geometry my freshmen year of high school. I thought that most of the time, they were a little confusing and did not make much sense. I did not really understand why we had to prove something that mathematicians had already proven to be true, but now I realize that most of the proofs we had to use, and prove, were used to teach us about the principals of geometry.

Use of Math in the Future

In the future, I will use math in some of my college courses, but I am not planning on pursuing a career that is heavy in math or science. I may take an elementary education math class in order to teach elementary. I will use math for budgeting and managing my finances. If I teach older students (middle school) I may use math to figure a curve on a test. :)
