Let’s begin with my daily tasks recorded in the logbook throughout my internship! Each day brought new experiences and responsibilities that helped me grow and understand estate operations better.

After completing the administrative tasks, I met with the Manager, Sir Alashter Sinteh, and the Assistant Manager, Sir Sharizam Japar, to receive a detailed briefing. During the briefing, they explained my role and tasks at SLDB, including my responsibilities, reporting structure, and working hours. .

On my first day, I helped prepare for the "Majlis Iftar Ramadhan dan Simbolik Penyerahan Pendapatan kepada Peneroka Wilayah Timur 2025," attended by the LTKNS Board of Directors. I worked with the team to set up the venue, manage the guest list, and handle logistics. I saw how teamwork and planning are important to make the event run smoothly. It was an exciting and meaningful start to my internship.

During the session, I was given a clear explanation of the purpose, flow, and application of each document, which enhanced my understanding of the procurement procedures and administrative processes practiced in SLDB.

After the briefing, I continued by entering invoice details from the suppliers into the four relevant documents based on the type of work performed. The documents were prepared for two estates, Apas Balung and Merotai. I was assigned to complete the documentation for Merotai Estate, ensuring that each entry was accurate according to the nature of the work stated in the invoices.

Today, I continued writing invoices into the GWO (Goods Work Order) and WAF (Work Authorization Form) book, just like yesterday. Since I was already familiar with the process, I was able to complete the task more efficiently while ensuring accuracy in recording the invoices.

This experience has strengthened my attention to detail and my ability to handle financial records systematically. I’m starting to see how administrative work connects to risk management and insurance, particularly in maintaining financial transparency and reducing errors that could lead to potential risks.

After confirming the necessary details, I organized the data systematically in an Excel file, ensuring clarity and accuracy. The completed file will be presented by the Manager to the Department of Labour (Jabatan Tenaga Kerja) for further review and action. Throughout this task, I was required to handle confidential information carefully and maintain a high level of accuracy in documenting financial records.

Although it was a short working day, it was still an important task that required focus and accuracy, especially when handling cash. I also learned how direct salary payments are carried out in person, and the importance of being clear, organized, and professional during distribution.

I took extra care to make sure all data matched the original records, especially for payment and FFB weight, as these directly affect financial and operational reporting. It was interesting to see how all these components are linked and how important it is to keep the information accurate in the system.

Once everything was in place, we proceeded with the hands-on demonstration. I learned how to carry out the triple rinsing process step by step, and the trainer explained why it’s essential for both safety and environmental protection. The session gave me a clearer understanding of how proper cleaning and disposal of containers can help prevent contamination and maintain workplace safety.

I reviewed all tasks I had completed so far and organized them clearly to ensure accurate documentation of my internship progress. After that, I went to the field to observe the actual estate operations. I learned how FFB (Fresh Fruit Bunches) are harvested manually using a sickle attached to a long pole. Each worker is assigned to specific blocks or sections, and their tasks are divided based on the daily work plan.

The workers operate under a sewa pajak (contract-based system), where their tasks and earnings are tracked based on the amount of work completed. I was shown how their work details are recorded in a checkroll and later keyed into the system for payment processing. This hands-on observation helped me understand how fieldwork is closely monitored and fairly compensated.

After that, I received a short briefing from the storekeeper regarding the use of fertilizer for the day. I took note of how much fertilizer would be used, including the quantity per lot and per hectare, which gave me a better understanding of planning and resource allocation in plantation management.

At around 9:30 AM, I followed the team to the field at Serudung Division to observe the spraying activities. I saw how the workers prepared and followed proper procedures, especially in using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). I also had the opportunity to speak with a few workers and ask them about their tasks. Hearing their experiences gave me a clearer picture of the challenges they face and the importance of safety and discipline in field operations.

In the afternoon at 2:00 PM, I helped prepare the meeting room for the estate workers' medical check-up session. This check-up is important to monitor the workers’ health and well-being, making sure they are fit for their daily tasks. I helped arrange the space to ensure a smooth and organized process during the session.

In addition, I was brought to visit the HBV (High Biodiversity Value) area, a designated zone where wildlife is preserved to protect and maintain its natural habitat. This conservation effort reflects the estate's commitment to environmental sustainability under MSPO requirements.The field tour was led by Mr. Janting A/K Ngalit, who provided explanations on boundary demarcation, land allocation, and the importance of biodiversity areas within the plantation landscape.

In addition, I was briefed on the palm oil production output, specifically focusing on the revenue generated from the sale of harvested fruit bunches and the profit flow earned by SLDB. This provided insight into how operational performance translates into financial outcomes for the estate.

The briefing also included information on the performance targets set by SLDB headquarters for the Apas Balung Estate, highlighting the key production goals and financial expectations for the current period.

The briefing aimed to ensure that settlers have the proper license to sell their FFB (Fresh Fruit Bunches) and obtain MSPO certification, which is essential for sustainable and legally recognized palm oil production. After the session, settlers were also offered the opportunity to register for the license to sell their FFB, helping them comply with certification requirements and gain better market access.

Since the workers are paid based on the “sewa pajak” concept, where their earnings depend on the amount of work they complete, this data is very important to calculate their payments accurately. It also helps management track productivity and monitor overall harvesting performance in the division.

After completing the data entry, I organized the employee leave application letters by year 2023, 2024, and 2025 and ensured each document was properly filed. I also checked that every leave application was complete and signed by the authorized by Manager, Assistant Manager, and Officer, before placing them into the respective files for proper record-keeping.

My task during this meeting was to write the meeting minutes, documenting all important points discussed, including the settlers’ feedback and decisions. This experience gave me better exposure to how discussions with settlers are conducted and how their collective decisions affect estate operations.
