Please can you complete your initial assessment and weekly reflection forms. As part of this we look at your long term aims and set your personal goals for this course. Its a great opportunity to remind yourself and us why you are choosing to take part in the course, and what you would like to achieve from it. 

We are all so very different and as tutors it helps to inform us so that we can build all learner needs and aspirations in as we progress through the course. If we can support you with any specific needs whilst you are on the couse please let us know too.  Best wishes. Carol

When we make goals we need to firstly choose something achievable in relation to the course you are doing. This could be learning a specific task like learning to use the electric screwdriver, or socializing more. Which are both ok for this course, but then we need to look at how we can say you have achieved this? Is this by making 1 friend or 50 friends?

Have a look at the video above which looks at SMART goals. Can you make socializing more into a SMART goal?

Now have a go with your own personal goal/s which you would like to achieve during this course. This will be discussed with your group tutor next week.

We will use this week as an opportunity to look at the new course and discuss aspects which you would like including.

We will also have a walk around to look at different tools, wood project designs, and wood working joints and skills.

We will be looking at hazards in different environments and how these can impact on out Risk Assessments prior to completing any DIY.

Then you have moved on to look at the planters and spotted an upright planter as well as the flat ones. Also well done for making educated guesses on the sizes.

Well done though for looking at the different wood joints used on the planters, you even did a some research to find out the correct name of the joints. Great work. Which wood joint could we use at CARE?

You have made lots of notes about the different shapes of the planters. Would you change the design of the planter you made in a previous STEM course now having looked at these? or would you have kept it the same?

Then well done for looking at the irrigation system and actually getting a price. This is something we can look into investing in at some point. But hopefully you have seen how easy it is to calculate the price of one for your own garden too.

You then looked at the irrigation systems and identified the allotment as a good spot to use these at CARE. I agree this would make a big difference to they amount and types of veg/fruit we could grow here at CARE. You also used math's skills to work out an instillation price. Great work lads.

Then they found that the tip of the masonry bit was wider than the shaft of the same bit. Due to the masonry drill bit unique shape. So they had to use a brad point drill bit one size smaller than the Masonry drill bit they were sighting.

Well done to this group some fantastic problem solving.
