1. I think that the Christmas truce means that even with all the fighting that goes on in war, people still can be decent human beings to even their opponents.
2. I think that the soldiers were very disappointed that the christmas truce could not continue. They probably thought that it could be a sign of the end of the war.
3. The most important aspect of the relationship between soldiers and officers is that the soldiers have to obey their officers. I think that the relationship between the officers and soldiers became more tense because the soldiers most likely did not want to continue to fight but they had to obey their officers.
4. Christmas is a time
with the absence of fighting
to enjoy the peace

1. I think it means that although there was a lot of fighting and the countries went to war there was still a small amount of kindness between the soldiers that shows that humans are not all evil. I think it was a way for the soldiers to make a miserable experience a tiny tiny bit better.
2. I think the soldiers were upset because it meant going back to miserable days and minutes full of fear. I bet they were happy about the truce because they could get rid of their worries but once they were told to fight again they were probably dreading it.
3. I think it is important for soldiers to trust their officers and for officers to be able to not fully control the soldiers but know the soldiers will obey them and not go against them. I think this aspect of their relationship was definitely affected by the Christmas truce because the soldiers were having a nice time and so hearing they would have to fight again from their officers might make them resent the officers and so that might get rid of some trust.
4. Haiku #1 - British:
There was no torture
I was actually happy
I could breathe for once
Haiku #2 - German:
There was no fighting
They were not the enemy
I want it again

1. I think that the meaning of the Christmas Truce was to take a break and sort of enjoy spending time with others since no one could be home to spend Christmas with their family, they gathered together to spend time with each other.
2. I think some were kind of upset because this was the one and only time that they could enjoy themselves and they only time when they did not have to worry every minute about when they were going to die.
3. To the soldiers, the have more authority and they are the ones who really care about defeating the other team and the soldiers were just their to fight for them.
4.

1. I think that the Christmas truce shows that even though war is a vicious thing, neither side is happy about it. It also shows that humans aren't all bad.
2. I think the soldiers were probably very upset that their generals ordered this peace to stop, because it brought them back to the reality of warfare.
3. I think soldiers respected their generals, but the Christmas truce made it harder for them to accept their generals as one of them. I think the generals' orders put up a wall between their relationships.
4. a. Germany:
We reach our hand out
to celebrate christmas cheer
and they accept it
b. I think the Christmas Truce means that even with all the fighting and chaos, they could all agree to come together and set aside their differences and celebrate together even during hard times.
2. I did not catch this part entirely, but I think they were upset now, and did not want to listen to their superiors.
3.I think it may have made things a little more tense towards the end since it was the superiors who made them go back to fighting, but possibly brought them closer since they all enjoyed spending time together as friends,
4.
a.

1. I think that the Christmas Truce shows that, even though both sides are in the middle of fighting each other, they all wanted a break from the fighting and wanted to enjoy doing something that brought them happiness for once.
2. Though they obeyed the orders, I believe that they would have been upset that their truce had to end so soon. Even though they most likely knew the truce would never last for a long time, each side was probably happy to have a break, which is why they would have most likely been upset and disappointed
3. The relationship between soldiers and their officers has to be strong, and this relationship was probably negatively affected by the Christmas Truce. After this brief truce, the gap between the officers and the soldiers became not just more so apparent but also grew bigger.

1. i think it means peace, and that you don't have to be all about facts and reality all the time. even though fraternizing with the enemy does not come with any benefits for your side of the war, the truce gave them a little break from an extensive time of misery and showed that people can interact like normal human beings, and not just like numbers that you're constantly trying to kill or win something from.
2. they weren't terribly happy because the truce was probably the best thing that had happened to them in a while, and they wanted to make it last. they were too absorbed in their unheard of happiness to suddenly touch base with reality and worry about everything again.
3. it made their relationship a lot more tense since they were forced to go back to fighting, and they felt like they'd just started being happy for once.
4. england:
wow what just happened
i've never felt this before
christmas cheer come tru
germany:
we're inviting you
we thought it would be quite nice
to reach out and preach

1. I think the meaning of the Christmas Truce was the sometimes people need a break from constantly fighting and they need time to make the best of the fact that they are alive because they could have ended up like theater soldiers and not hav made it to see Christmas.
2. They were upset because they only had two days of not constantly looking over their shoulders of wondering if they were gonna be the next person to die.
3. I think they must have really resented their commanding officers or who ever was calling the shots because they had no choice but to follow their orders and sometime they would make them attack the opposing side not know how bad it was when they had them doing it the night before. They were making them risk their lives like they didn't matter. and it probably made them upset that they got to tell them to basically kill themselves and they had not experienced what the soldiers were going through.
4. Scared, we get no rest

1. I think the Christmas truce was a way for the soldiers forget about all the terrible things that are happening for a little while and celebrate something that they all have in common to show that they're in this together. I think since they were away from their actual families the truce was a way for them to bond with each other since they're all missing their families and they could all act like one big family.
2. I think the soldiers felt disappointed and like they were betraying their new friendships that they made. They probably felt very reluctant to abandon the truce and they knew it was wrong, but they were probably afraid of what the consequences would be if they didn't stop. After all, it was what they came to do anyway.
3.

1. I believe the overall meaning of the Christmas Truce was for the soldiers to experience some happiness in their misery of fighting. All the soldiers had to be on the battlefield on a day that should be spent with people they love, so this was a great way to make that a little bit better.
2. I think they would have been discouraged when they were told to abandon the truce, but they would have done it because the christmas day interaction was like a fanasty where the germans and the french and british got along, but they needed to get into reality and do what they came there to do.
3. The most important aspect is respect. I think soldiers would have been mad but take the orders because they respect their superiors. Their superiors gave them orders often during the war, so they would be used to dissapointment and get around it.
4. Christmas brings us joy,
but we have to be on the field,
Truce

1. I think the Christmas Truce shows that no matter what is going on around us, human compassion still comes through. Even though they were forced to "stop fraternizing with the enemy", they were able to show the power of human connection on that single day.
2. The soldiers most likely reacted with disdain towards the officers orders but had no choice but to follow them.
3. I think the most important aspect is respect but with respect, there should be the thought that the officer is making the correct decision. I think the Christmas Truce broke the trust between officer and soldier that correct decisions were made.
4.

1. I think that the truce shows that even through our differences we as humans can still put those differences aside to celebrate something that we can all enjoy and have in common such as Christmas.
2. I don't think that the soldiers liked it very much since the truce was a nice break from all the misery they had been through. They mightve even thought that this truce couldve been the end of the war, but unfortunately it wasnt
3. The most important aspect between the two rankings are the respect that must be given to the superiors. The soldiers must obey order and commands from the superiors and do so with respect. The Christmas Truce most likely affected this relationship negatively because whn the superiors abandoned the truce the soldiers most likely did not want to do this.
4. Germans- "Dont shoot, we wont shoot. Celebrate together, then back to business"
French- "A truce hopefully, fun nights filled with tons of joy, time to say goodbye"

They probably were upset that they had to go back to killing one another and having the awful living conditions, but it was more than likely expected.
3.

1. I think that the Christmas Truce was just an excuse to stop fighting. I feel that the soldiers on both ends were mentally and physically drained. I think the experience was very traumatic and so they wanted to spend a special holiday in a way where they could enjoy themselves.
2. I think overall they were disappointed because both sides seemed to have wanted the truce to continue so they could stop fighting. I believe that they just wished that the truce could remian, and that they realized that fighting was just pointless (hence the fact that were able to get along so nicely). But, they listened and began to fight again.
3. I think that the soldiers on both sides trust and respect their generals, but I believe that by ending the truce their healing relationships and similarities were crushed. I feel like they could have resolve dtheir conflict then and there if the superiors had also came through with the truce completely.
4.
