         <description><![CDATA[<div>Beverly J Martin Elementary School is an urban public school located in Downtown Ithaca, NY. The student population is 268 and the school serves PK-5. Their mission statement focuses on human rights, home and school collaboration, and understanding of all cultures.          <description><![CDATA[<div>These are the programs used school and district-wide.<br><br>Math: EMBARC <br>EBARC stands for Eureka Math Bay Area Regional Consortium. They state their vision as, “To build a collaborative community of Eureka Math users.” and, “To provide a common website to support all users of the Eureka Math curriculum”. They provide lesson plans, formal and summative assessments, example problems and activities that aligne with state and grade level standards. They also provided reasources for number talks and vocabulary.<br><a href="https://embarc.online/course/view.php?id=44">https://embarc.online/course/view.php?id=44</a></div><div><br>Phonological Awareness: Really Great Reading and BLAST<br>Blast is a Phonological Awareness Program used to acclimate students to reading and writing. Students will engage in blending, syllable recognition, and multiple forms of letter and word recognition to further their literacy. The program comes with lesson plans, guided virtual lessons with video supports, games, assessments, and vitual assisted reading programs for students.<br><a href="https://olt.reallygreatreading.com/teacher/packages/olt-blast-standard/">https://olt.reallygreatreading.com/teacher/packages/olt-blast-standard/</a><br><br>Literacy: Fountas and Pinnell<br><em>Fountas &amp; Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention </em>is meant to be a short-term intervention for those starting or struggling with literacy. It provides small-group instruction with leveled books and designed lessons for comprehension and literature exposure. The program provided leveled reading books, predesigned lessons and assessments.<br><a href="https://www.fountasandpinnell.com/">https://www.fountasandpinnell.com/</a><br><br>Science: FOSS<br>FOSS is a national science program that differentiated to each states specific standards. They provided lessons and opportunities for student pre-K to 8 to, “think and act like scientists and engineers”. Developed through UC Berkeley, they present science based experiances through investigation and experimentation.          <description><![CDATA[<div>A+ (Academic Plus) After School Program<br>Their mission statements is, “to provide an affordable, engaging, safe after school childcare option for all children, especially those from families lacking financial resources for quality childcare”. A+ uses the students regular curriculum to engage in activities that focus on student interests, support different ways of learning, and draw on the rich cultural and academic resources. Recently they have started emphasising STEM programs. It is considered an “umbrella organization” that encapsulates committees for events, fundraising, action groups etc.. These events include their Multicultureal Night, where they celebrate the diversity of BJM with food, music, dancing, funraising, and a silent auction. It provided a vitual catalogue where students can search books to see if they are available and where it can be found.          <description><![CDATA[<div>7:40-8:15: Students Arrive<br>They will unpack their bags and leave their folder they take back and forth from home and school in their cubbies. They may draw, read, write, or play with play doh until morning meeting starts. There is also free breakfast provided by the school.<br>8:20-8:35: Morning Meeting<br>The class will sit in a circle on the carpet and we will start with greeting each other. Then we will have time to share our thoughts or experiences (these prompts depend on the day). Next we will play a collaborative game (changes on the day). Afterward we will go over the month, week, weather, and the daily schedule. Finally we review everyone’s daily job.<br>8:40-9:30: Math<br>If there is time we will start with a 5 minute number talk where student will observe and discuss a math problem as a class. Then the class will break up into centers where one skill level group at a time will work this the teacher. Meanwhile the rest of the class has a choice between doing a iPad math program, play with pattern blocks, building blocks, color by number, or a math game that changes depending on the concept being taught.<br>9:30-10:15: Special<br>The school has a 4 number day rotation. Students rotate between Art, Physical Education, and Music. PE reoccurs on days 2 and 4.<br>10:20-10:30: Snack<br>Snack is provided for if the students do not bring their own from home. They are either bought by the school, or donated by the students families.<br>10:35-11:30: Blast and Literacy&nbsp;<br>The first 10 to 15 minutes will be spent on an all class phonological awareness lesson called Blast. The rest of the time will be on literacy centers. Like math one skill group at a time will meet with the teacher and us the Fortas and Pinnell leveled readings and questions. The rest of the class will have the choice between silent reading, iPad reading or phonics programs, heart word recognition game, or a sound blending game or activity.<br>11:30-11:45: Choice<br>Depending on how long Literacy takes and the students behavior they may have the time before lunch and recess to have free choice. They can play games, play with toys they brought from home, read, draw, or play with play doh. If they did not complete an assignment from earlier they will complete it during this time. They will also all use the restroom before going out for recess.<br>11:45-12:25: Lunch and Recess<br>Recess will either be indoors or outdoors depending on the weather. Students can pack a lunch from home, or they have a free lunch provided by the school.<br>12:25-12:35: Quiet Time<br>This is time for students to wind down from lunch and recess. They can draw, write, read, or play with playdoh so long as they are quiet.<br>12:35-1:15: Science, Social Studies, Guest Reader, or Social Emotional lesson<br>Every other Monday the school counselor comes into the classroom to teach a lesson social emotional development. Typically they will ask what skills or conflicts that have been occurring in the class that they should focus on. Every Wednesday there is a “Secret Guest Reader”, this could be one of the students parents, siblings, or a guest of of one of the teachers choosing. The rest of the these times will be spend on Social Studies the first half of the year, and Science the second half of the year.<br>1:15-1:50: Choice<br>First student will be called on to get their things and pack their bags. Then they can play games, play with toys they brought from home, read, draw, or play with play doh. If they did not complete an assignment from earlier they will complete it during this time.<br>1:50-2:00: Dismissal<br>Students that take the bus home will leave first and will be walked to their bus. Those that got to the after school program will be picked up and taken to the meeting room. Finally those that are picked up will be walked to the lobby till their caretaker arrives.<br><br></div>]]></description>
