When I came to college for my enrolment day, the teachers made activities we could do in order to communicate with the other new students. I had to communicate with my team mates and teachers to complete the tasks. The tasks were completely communication based so all the new students could get over their fears of talking to people they have never met. I made it clear what my objective was and spoke with confidence. I also made the teachers believe I had potential to be on level 3.

I have a part-time job which includes a lot of communication. Every Saturday I work in a hairdressers to help out when it is busy. My job involves speaking with customers and ensuring them that they are comfortable. This job has taught me how important communication is. This is because if I do not communicate with the customers, they might not be comfortable with the way I am washing their hair, how they are positioned etcetera... The job has also taught me how exactly to communicate. One thing I would improve is to not be nervous as I am communicating with the clients.

I have participated in a few activities whilst at college, this helped with communication, being more confident and working as a team to complete the activities. We had to communicate in order to make a blanket out of pieces of paper and string, this meant that we had to communicate with our team to work out how we would connect all the pieces of paper. On my enrolment day, we had to participate in a range of activities. For example, we had to communicate by making a chair out of balloons.

We have done many teamwork activities whilst being at college so far. For our Cabin Crew lesson we had to write a script for a pre-flight briefing. We all participated in writing the script. As this was part of an assessment, we also had to be recorded whilst reading from the script. In my small group we used teamwork to preform our assessment to Jess. However, I would have improved my confidence skills as I was very nervous in the assessment.

Another time we used teamwork is in my life skills lesson. We all had to learn CPR before working out on our own how to put a sling and a bandage on someone. None of my team (including me) knew how to do this therefore we all had to work as a team to figure this out. We all participated and suggested a range of techniques on how to do this. This activity/lesson made me more confident in sharing my opinions and suggestions with people I did not know so well. I also learnt how to do this properly by the end of the lesson.

Additionally, in our lesson T&T industry, we used teamwork to navigate how we would get from one destination to another using a map. As we was not allowed to fly by plane to that destination, we had to work together to figure out ways of getting there. We researched in our groups and found out how much money we would need, which types of transport we would use and how long the journey would take. Teamwork was vital in this activity as it would be extremely difficult to work out exactly how we would get there.

A time when I have been motivated is in September when I was looking for a part time job between college. I was motivated because I wanted to accomplish getting my first job on my own. I am also motivated to attend college and complete all of my work because I am determined to be Cabin Crew when I am older. Another way I have shown reliability is at work. I make sure that I turn up on time and complete all of my jobs before leaving at the end of the day. This shows my boss that I am reliable because it means I am thinking on my own and complete my jobs without being asked to. This proves to my boss that I can get on with my job alone without telling me to.

I have shown mentor and support skills at my current job. I have done this by guiding the new member of staff; I showed her what she needs to do, where everything is located and how to do her job. Another time that I have shown resilience would be during my driving lessons; I’m not a very confident driver therefore I usually get stressed/upset on my driving lessons. I had a lesson and started to get really upset, my instructor asked if I would like to carry on or go back home. At first I really didn’t want to carry on however I had a quick break to calm myself down and carried on with the lesson.

One way I have shown sustainability would be at home; at home me and my family like to recycle. For example, we have a recycling bin outside and recycling boxes in our utility room, me and my family try to recycle as often as possible.

Another way that I have shown sustainability is when I have donated or sold old clothes. Instead of throwing away old clothes, I usually donate my clothes to a local charity shop. Additionally, if the clothes that I do not want were expensive or just still in great condition, I often sell them for cheap on Vinted or Depop. This reduces the waste of clothes.

I try to be sustainable by reducing electricity and water waste; I do this by turning off all electrical devices and all plugs when I am not using them, this reduces waste of electricity. I also try and save water at any time possible.

Another example is when we did a bake sale at college, we baked/ bought cakes and buns and handed them out around honey well and the construction building. The money we raised went to charity.

Another example of work experience is when I worked for my mum and step dad. I worked at their sandwich shop in Barnsley for a few weeks; a worked here three days a week with my mum and stepdad. I learnt how to work the till and helped out with the food, I also learnt customer service, health and safety and food safety and hygiene.

One example of work experience that I have is my current job; I have worked at a salon since September and have developed good customer service skills whilst working there. I only work once a week on a Saturday to help my boss with the small jobs that need doing. For example, I clean up, make sure the clients and salon are ready for the service, wash peoples hair, hand out drinks and snacks.

Another way I have shown social responsibility is by recycling my own personal items. I do this with clothing, books, shoes and much more; I either donate my clothes to charity shops or sell them on places like ‘Vinted’ for a cheap price. I have also shown social responsibility through volunteering. I volunteered at my local church hall as there wasn’t enough staff to keep the activities running that take place there. In our cabin crew lesson at college, we carry out practical assessments; this includes security checks, pre-flight briefings and safety demonstrations. This shows how to deal with emergency situations and carry out good customer service. This will help me massively in the future as these situations may happen when I am a part of the travel industry.

My learning objectives would be to understand more about applying for a cabin crew role and the training to become cabin crew. I would like to learn more about what is expected and needed for the training process.

In order to develop the ability to evaluate and analyse work efficiently, I need to be more organised and plan my assignments/homework in advance. I also need to be more time efficient and manage it correctly.

Before the interview roleplay assessment, I briefly revised my notes as I believed I would be able to memorize them all. When I entered the room, I could not remember anything, therefore I felt nervous; however, I still presented myself as confident and positive. During the assessment, I tried my hardest to improvise and remember the key facts about the airline, including their values and goals. My areas for development would be to revise my notes more beforehand; this would help massively as I would be less hesitant, more confident and more prepared. Moreover, I would have been able to go into further detail based on the airline itself and how these factors are used in my life.

I have a part-time job at River Island as a sales assistant. My roles are to assist customers at the till and on the shop floor. I retrieve click and collect parcels, check sizes, tidy the shop floor(s), complete refill and organise returns (web and in-store).
