Our College and Career Academies are intentionally designed to include all students (gen ed,SPED, EL, etc) regardless of their abilities. We strive to provide opportunities and experiences to explore their interests and develop their passions.

Bridget - We allow our students to use choice boards and have a voice in their learning. We also do school wide events and welcome the community that students partially facilitate such as talent show, song fest etc.

Julia - Warm Hearted Welcomers Program. Students were able to sign up to be a WHW. They make a lei for a new student and give them a tour and show them around the school. We try to pair WHW who speak a second language with new students that also speak that language.

Each grade level plans at least one family engagement activity per year, where parents come on campus and engage in an activity with their children and teachers.

Kristen - We have family nights where student clubs showcase their talents (dance, music, performance, drama club, etc.).

Bill - students have the ability to create different clubs after school to meet their interests. We do have a talent show where students can showcase themselves or group. Example: Micronesia group did a song and dance in traditional dress and wond 2nd place.

Students have a variety of educational opportunities other than core subjects like Art, STEM, Guidance, and Hawaiiana but also clubs like JPO, Student Council, Creative Arts, Media, etc. Gives different opportunities for all our students.

Students in grades 5-6 record weekly reflection videos that are sent home in their Class Dojo accounts to their families. Parents have the opportunities to ask questions or provide feedback to their children that is directly connected to their learning for the week.

Summer Hub was a blast for this group of incoming 8th graders. Instead of a traditional curriculum, they took part in a place-based, Artificial-Intelligence cultural infused program that allowed our Lancer keiki to take a deep-rooted look at who they are and where they come from. Facilitated by nā kumu Woodward, Ligsay and Villegas, students were able to go on field trips, hui together to have discussions, and prepare an AI-generated presentation of themselves. Students shared their “piko”, a personal descriptor, the kumu in their lives, and what their future holds for them. Our students engaged in durable skills of investigation, communication, collaboration and creation; this process by our 8th graders encapsulated all four.
