The Story is about a married couple that wanted to get each other gifts for Christmas, but they had no money. So they each made a selflessness act to sell their most vauable things in order to buy something for each other. I think the most important theme in the story is Christmas spirit. It is not about the gifts of Christmas. It is about giving back to the people you love, or people you do not even know. It is about being Christ like, it is about spreading love through out the world by giving back. The characters in the story give to each other and make a self giving act of love. That is the spirit of Christmas. I strive to live my life like that, by being Christ like, to the people who need to know that they are loved and they are worthy.

The story was about a young, married couple, who sold their most prized possessions in order to buy Christmas presents for each other. I think the themes of courage and giving are the most important because Jim and Della each needed to have courage in order to give of themselves.
When Della decides to sell her hair, it is hard for her to do. It takes a lot of courage for her to give it up, but she does it for love of Jim.
Additionally, it takes courage for her to face Jim after she has sold her hair, but she is excited to give him what she thinks he wants most, a chain for his watch.

In my life, I think having courage in the little moments is very important because it helps when it comes down to really being courageous. Sometimes it takes courage to raise your hand in class, or stand up for someone who is getting bullied. I also think giving is huge in my life. It is good to put others needs before my own.

In this story, a married couple displays courage and wisdom by giving up something very special to get each other valuable gifts. They are not very rich, but they have been trying to save money to buy each other Christmas presents. When they realize that the other gave up something so special, they continue to be happy and courageous. The two themes that are most important are courage and wisdom. They were wise when on page 3 and 4 they knew they should give up something special, and they were courageous when they followed through with their sacrifices. Sacrifices is another important theme. This plays a role in my life because sometimes I have to make choices that are hard and require courage. Sometimes I don't want to give up something that is special to me even if it will make someone else happy.

The Theme of Love Amidst Suffering

This story is about a couple who live in poverty but overcome their financial hardships by choosing love and joy amidst their suffering and sacrifice. The most important theme in this story is the theme of authentic love, which manifests in the story through the sacrifices that the couple devote to one another. This is shown in the text when it immediately establishes the great sacrifices that the couple must perform in order to give a worthy gift to the other. The very fact that each one feels that the other is deserving of a great gift demonstrates the depth of their love. This is shown through foreshadowing when the text describes their most prized possessions, the only things that they were "proud of" (2). The story then shows that the selling of this is a sacrifice by showing Della's fear and trepidation as she goes to sell her hair, as well as the harrowing look on Jim's face when he enters the apartment with his gift. But the text then moves beyond just the sacrifice--it shows that the sacrifices that Jim and Della make are not the end; rather, the true end is their love for one another. They end in a loving embrace and have dinner together. Their relationship transcends the sacrifice. This theme is relevant to my own life because I have to remember that sacrifice is not just for the sake of sacrifice. It is for the sake of love. Sacrifice should always be in service of charity, not in service of my own pride.

Christmas Spirit
In this story, James and Della embrace their poverty by selling their most prized possessions in order to buy gifts for each other, even though they live in poverty. I think that the idea of keeping your spirits high in the midst of extreme poverty is a very important theme of this story. On page 5, Della says, "It's Christmas, Jim. Let's be happy." She thinks that he is disappointed in how she looks now, and she is reminding him that Christmas is a time to be joyful. On page 2, is says, "She had had many hours planning something nice for him," which shows that even though she knew she did not have a lot of money, she was excited at the opportunity to give him something that he would love, and to see that joy. This theme plays a role in my life because, as part of a big family, we have not always been able to afford to have extravagant Christmas presents. It's always been important for our family that we stick together and have positive attitudes and remember the real reason for the Christmas season, which is that it is a day to celebrate Jesus' birth.

The story is set right before Christmas and is about a young couple who lives in poverty. Both the man and the woman want to get the other a nice gift for Christmas, but they cannot afford it. They each have something that is very special to them and they sell those things to get the other a gift. In the end, the find out that they each got each other gifts they can use for the thing that they sold for the other. They are still happy in the end because they love each other and sacrificed what they had so that they could give something nice to the other. I think the theme of sacrifice is most important in this story because that is what loving someone should be like. It also ties into how it mentions the Magi and what they sacrificed for Christ, who would make the ultimate sacrifice for us. You can see in the story that the wife is in distress in the beginning because she does not know how she can afford a nice gift for her husband. The mood lightens when she sells her hair and makes the money, because she is so excited to get him a gift. At the end of the story, you can see their love for one another because they are both so joyful despite not being able to use the gift that they received from the other. They only cared about each other and making each other happy. This theme plays a role in my life because I have lots of people close to me that I care about and want to make sacrifices for. Sacrificing shows that you want to forfeit or withhold something so that another can receive or benefit from it. I think that is a beautiful message and this story did well in portraying it. It makes an excellent Christmas story as it is the season of giving and being with loved ones while celebrating the birth of Christ.

This story is about a couple who recognizes the greatest gift they can give one another is love. They each sacrifice something they highly value in order to get the other a Christmas gift. This shows how much they love one another. I think the most important theme in this story is love. I think this theme is important because in the text it mentions Della wanting to get Jima gift that is almost worth the honor of belonging to him. This shows that she treasures Jim more than any material possession. This theme plays a role in my life by being more appreciative of the gifts people give me because they are giving to me out of love.

The Gift of the Magi is about a couple who has the wisdom to sacrifice items they value in order to give a gift to someone they love. I think the most important theme of the story is sacrificial love. This is demonstrated on page three of the story when Della tells the lady buying her hair, "Give it to me quick." Della loves Jim so much she doesn't think twice about sacrificing something she cares for so much because it will never overcome her love for Jim. I think the theme in this story can teach us how to live out sacrificial love in our life.

Jim and Delle willed the good of one another throughout this story! Delle cut her hair and Jim sold his watch as both were trying to please the other. Ultimately they found that they only needed each other and that was the greatest gift. I think love and sacrifice go hand in hand so these are the two most important themes of the story. I think it is great that this story meant many different things for different people! For me, I was reminded of those who love me.

Della sells her hair so she can have enough money to buy Jim a chain for his watch. Jim sells his watch so he can buy Della beautiful combs for her hair.
I think of the theme of sacrifice is most prevalent in the story. On page 3, the reader hears about how hard it was for Della to sell her hair but how she wanted to do it for Jim.
This theme plays a role in my life because even though making sacrifices are hard, I know they are good.

Within this story, there is an underlying theme of Christmas Spirit and what it truly means. The theme of sacrificial love when it comes to Christmas is always a classic and this couple personified this spirit when they gave all they had out of love for each other. Christmas isn't about wealth, but about the thoughts behind the actions and general spirit of joviality, love, and sacrifice.

The Gift of the Magi follows a day in the life of Jim and Della as they sacrifice what is most precious to them to purchase a gift for the other. Both characters embrace the theme of selfless sacrifice to put the needs of their loved one before themselves. Evidence for this claim can be found on page 3 when Della sells her hair for $20. She tells Mrs. Sofronie to "give it to me quick," which alludes to the sacrifice Della is making for Jim. This theme is relative in my own life because it is the little actions of love that form a web of love that connects us all.
