The science/research within the field of educational psychology

This photo represents the science/research within the field of educational psychology because of how most of the research is done through observation in the classroom. The only way we can learn about educational psychology is to be able to observe what is happening in classrooms and see how the students and the teachers and behaving and learning. When I was a student there were several times where teachers would be observed in the classroom as that was how they got to directly see what was happening in the classroom. Since this photo shows a person observing teachers and students, I feel that this photo is a great representation of the science/research within the field of educational psychology.

For me, this represents preschool learning, as when I was a child, I remember learning through games and such. We also did a lot of construction and building in preschool, just like this marble tower, and would learn through that process of getting the marble to travel throughout the structure. When children are young they learn through their experiences and through play, which is why I thought that this object is a great representation of preschool learning.

Elementary School Learning

The treasure chest with toys makes me think of elementary school learning because of how when I was in elementary school you would be rewarded for doing something good or answering something correctly by being able to pick a toy from the treasure chest. This is an example of positive reinforcement which is behaviorism. Behaviorism is a learning theory that was used a lot for me in elementary school, with the treasure chest being an example of that. This is why I put down the treasure chest as my artifact for elementary school learning.

The reason why I chose this image for secondary school learning is because at this age my learning was very much impacted by the peers around me. I found that peer pressure was a huge thing and that I learned a lot from my peers about social norms and such. There also were a lot of group projects done when I was in secondary school so that I could learn how to work well with other people now and in the future. Overall, I found that secondary school learning was very driven by my peers and social learning which is why I chose this photo.

I chose this photo to represent my college learning because of how I have found that I learn best in classes that involve class participation or class discussions. This especially works well in classes that I am very interested in and very passionate about. Being able to engage with the material and discuss it with others helps me look at different perspectives as well as learn the material. This is why I love my psychology classes and my theatre classes as they involve participating in discussions about stuff that I am passionate about or engaging with the material directly rather than being lectured at.

I chose this artwork as a representation of the learning process/theories because of how this photo shows the many different experiences and ways that people learn and it also shows learning throughout the entire lifespan. I like how abstract the artwork is as I feel that learning is a very vibrant and abstract process that is different for everyone and that everyone learns through different experiences, which is why I love how this artwork shows so many different activities and learning. Learning is a different process for everyone and I think that this photo shows the different ways of learning and how learning doesn't stop, no matter what your age is, which is why I chose this artwork.

I like this photo that I chose to represent critical/creative/complex thinking as I like how you can see the person in the image thinking and researching a topic to think critically about. I also like how, in this photo, there are two people who are both researching the same thing and how they are helping each other to think critically. Critical thinking, to me, can be a collaborative process as I find discussing topics with other people and doing research with others helps me to think critically about certain topics.

Motivation

The reason why I chose this photo for motivation is because I have found that motivation comes from yourself, and you have to believe that you can achieve something in order to have the motivation to do it. This comes from Motivational Systems Theory as if you don't think you have the skill to do something, then you don't have the motivation to do it, so therefore you never do it. Motivation Systems Theory states that motivation comes from one's personal goals, capability beliefs, context beliefs, and emotional arousal processes. If I have the self-confidence and belief that I can do something, then I am more likely to have the motivation to do it, so therefore I do it. This photo is a drawing representing self-confidence in yourself, which is why I think this photo represents motivation.

I chose this photo to represent studying because I find when I am studying, I need to go somewhere by myself to study, such as a library. There is a whole process to studying, and I find that when I am studying with other people, I can get distracted and lose focus, but when I am studying independently I am able to get my work done and successfully learn the material for my tests. This photo resonated with me in how I like to prepare and study for tests, which is why I chose it to represent studying.

I feel that this photo represents the use of technology in education as technology is now used by everyone in the classroom, just like in this photo. Technology can be a very helpful tool for learning, but if not used properly, it can also be harmful. I find that this photo shows how most people use technology in the classroom, which is to take notes and project the information being taught on the board. I find technology is a great resource for me in college, but it can also be a hindrance to my learning as I feel that I am sometimes too reliant on technology to teach me in an educational setting.
