Mexico is the largest country in Central America with over 168 million people living there, with Mexico City being the capital. Spanish is the most predominate language with 93.8 percent of the population being fluent. Mexico is a relative new country as it was under the control of Spain up until August 24, 1821. This is same year that the iconic flag of an eagle holding a snake was born. Along with the images having a meaning, the colors stand for blood of hero's, independence, and friendship between Mexico and Europe. Mexico is diverse with the way that people live because 4/5 of people live urbanely, however the rest live more traditional in rural towns.

In Mexico one of the most historic events in their history occurred in June when they voted to elect the first women for president. Her main aim for her first year, is to increase the value of the peso as it has dropped in value overtime. Her other aim is to reform the judicial system from the bottom courts to the supreme court. However, a major issue that has arisen across Mexico, is a severe water shortage from extreme droughts. Finally, connecting Cancun and Campeche is a new railway system made as a secure way for tourist to travel between tourist sites.

Mexico is known as being one of the most culturally rich countries, as its history can be traced back over 10,000 years. This means that many groups of people have existed in Mexico, each with their traditions. Nowadays out of all these practices, Dia de Muertos, or Day of the Dead is the most famous/celebrated. The holiday is to remember the dead and celebrate the living. Families will do this by creating ofrendas to give offerings and honor family members who have passed on. With the holiday many people will dress up in flowery dresses and tuxedos with bright orange and black. Many will also include skeleton body paint or have it on their face.

There are many different kinds of Mexican food, depending on the region of Mexico you are in. For example, the most popular dish in Sonora is enchiladas filled with beef, cheese, and chicken. However, in Baja California, the most popular dish is fresh fish tacos as it is on the coast. In southern parts of Mexico, dishes include items such as shrimp in garlic sauce or ceviche. Still some dishes are eaten across Mexico such as the burrito. Mexico is known for having some of the most diverse food that is amazing in taste.

Mexico has some of the most famous types of music such as mariachi while having a large part of modern types. Mariachi music has origins in the western part of Mexico in the late 1700s and has been evolving since. Within a mariachi band there has to be at least 4 people consisting of the violin, guitar, guitarron, and vihuela but as many people as wanted can be in a band. However there are many modern forms of music that Mexico has influenced such as pop or rap. With icons such as Peso Pluma who is one of the most listened to artists on Spotify.

Something interesting that I found about Mexican sports was that, even though Soccer is by far the largest sport, it is not the national sport. Instead of soccer it is Charreria which is a horse back sport that involves 9 different events with all of them involving catching a bull. However Soccer or futbol as they call it, is still the most popular sport with 17,000 people playing in pro leagues. An impressive feat they have accomplished is being one of six countries to have qualified for the world cup ever year since 1994. Although they have never made it far into the event with the quarter finals being the farthest.

When I came into this project I believed that Mexico would be a lot more similar to the United States than it is. For example while the US has Mexican food, the authentic food is much different and includes much more seafood. One of the things that I found to be most enjoyable to learn about is there national sport is still a traditional sport that only exists in Mexico. Also how they have many different cultural events they have to represent there past and how they continue their family's legacy. I found this to be different from the United States because well we have traditions that are alike what they do, they are not as dedicated extravagant. However I think that many things that exist there are inside of America but in a different form. I would say that Mariachi music is exactly like country music because it only exists within one country and it is specific to it. I found this project made me dive deep within what makes my own heritage and country similar and different to others.
